M.Gasol to MN?

MIN In: Marc Gasol, Jared Dudley
MIN Out: Derrick Williams, Nikola Pekovic, Wayne Ellington

I'm buying into the DWill hype. I'm a believer and think the kid will become an exceptional pro, and would be more than happy to watch him grow for years in Minny. However, I'd deal him if the opportunity presented itself to land a C of Gasol's caliber (and ultimate role player in Dudley). Rubio/Love/Williams makes for an awesome young core, but Rubio/Love/Gasol is a foundation of a team that could contend for years. To be set at the 1/4/5 would be huge, and there'd be lots of assets leftover to upgrade the wing positions if need be. Keep feeding the positivity towards Beasley, hoping he finally makes that leap, and there really could be something special here.

MEM In: Marcin Gortat
MEM Out: Marc Gasol

Memphis is paying Randolph/Gay almost as much as Miami is paying Wade/LeBron. Add in the new $40M contract owed to Conley and it may not be possible for them to resign Gasol, no matter how much they might want to. If the new CBA doesn't allow them to financially be able to justify the 5 yr/$60M deal he's likely to command, then receiving Marcin Gortat in a S&T wouldn't exactly be the worst consolation prize. Gortat has a super friendly contract and he would fit right in with the core in Memphis, allowing them to continue their progression in the standings.

PHO IN: Derrick Williams, Nikola Pekovic, Wayne Ellington
PHO Out: Marcin Gortat, Jared Dudley

This seems like a no-brainer for Phoenix. They're high on Gortat, but it's a deal that'd be tough to turn down. Steve Nash gets a shiny new toy to play with in Derrick Williams for the final year of his contract, and once Nash is out the door the franchise will have a new face to build around. They'd also receive a big C with potential in Pek to help fill the void of Gortat and compete for minutes with Lopez. Derrick Williams would be an absolutely terrific piece to jump start the rebuilding process.

Gasol
Love
Beasley
Johnson
Rubio

It's interesting. I think Williams will be very good too.... however i'm not sold he can effectively be a 3 in this league, which to me (at this point anyway) this trade is interesting.

I would like to see him in action first.

I'm not sure if you should offer the #2 overall pick for a sign and trade deal. With Rubio here, I think we could get Gasol for less.

I hear you. There are few scenarios in which I'd actually want to trade Williams, but this is one of them. I liken Gasol to a similar version of Andrew Bogut, but without the durability concerns and probably more potential (might be in the minority on this one, per usual  ). Being a productive defensive oriented player, Gasol is the type of C that could change the culture around here upon his arrival. On top of his defensive mindset, he's a good passer, highly efficient in his scoring opportunities, and plays with sincere passion. And he'd balance the roster out to the point where getting to the playoffs would be the expectation, not just the goal. To me that'd be enough to trade away a top prospect.

since phoenix isn't really giving much up, id try to swap beasley for dwill in this trade.

This.

I'd probably do it with Beasley but not with DWill.

Probably would trade Beasley for a long term answer at Center? :o

The other option would be to keep Beasley and Derrick Williams, and overpay by offering him a $14 mil max deal, daring MEM to add another big salary.

I like Marc Gasol. He's not a superstar at any one individual skill, but he's good at a lot of things I'd want out of a center. And of course, maybe it would help to team Rubio and Gasol.

Yes, probably. Without knowing any details of a deal and what Gasol's salary will be, that is the best you will get from me.

That's cool. To each their own. I think Gasol at his position is so much more valuable than Beasley ever will be in the NBA, no matter the contract or $ amount.

Nope, not even close. Williams will become a superstar small forward. Why would we trade that away?

Could the Wolves make an offer like that without any S&T arrangement, considering they don't have the cap space?

That's especially impressive since he isn't a small forward.

What kind of money is Gasol getting here?

I'd like to see how Adelman is able to utilize the guys we have on our roster first -- I think with Love/Randolph/Darko we could be just fine at Center. As I've said before, I'm not big on a Love - Gasol front court -- just not enough athleticism and speed on the front line there.

Not straight up, but we could "trade" elsewhere for a TPE/Cap space to create the cap space to make an offer, or do a sign-and-trade directly with MEM if they didn't want to give Gasol a big offer. In broad terms, we have many players that are worth their salary, and we could probably trade to a team for cap space.

Sure, but athleticism and speed doesn't exactly equate to success. What about the fact that, in terms of fundamentals, efficiency, BBIQ, and just straight up skills and understanding of the game, a Love/Gasol tandem would be unmatched as far as NBA frontcourts go? That's a winning formula, and I think the positives they'd bring clearly outweigh the negatives they'd have in not being the most athletic duo. With a weapon like AR coming off the bench the sky would be the limit for that group.

Yeah, that'll be a great trade. Then trade Beasley and one of the bigmen (Darko or AR) for a shooting guard and you're good to go.

Gasol/Darko or AR/Miller
Love/Tolliver
Wes/Webster
SG (Gordon, Nick Young-?)/Lee
Rubio/Luke

Neither has much of a post game. Neither can guard the perimeter. Neither will be successful guarding the pick and roll. Neither will be successful in transition defense.

Gasol and Randolph works you say? Well it helps when you have three great perimeter defenders in Battier, Allen, and Conley, that can deny penetration. The Wolves have Malcolm Lee.

Gasol isn't worth $14M/year and he's not worth the #2 pick, Derrick Williams.
