Derrick williams
Is derrick the small forward of the future for the wolves? ( with the second pick he better be or is he the future at the four spot?) can derrick play the three after being used as a four throughout college? any one know or have footage of him playing the wing? where do u see derrick at the three in the near future?

Re: Derrick williams
I was hoping we could have pulled off some blockbuster trade before the draft, but I guess we valued Williams over whatever we were offered. Gortat probably pulled a Love, and leaked something that he wasn't supposed to.
bout that trade for mr. Williams??? Its front office people decision but i will always be part of suns army. Its bizness its ok.

Re: Derrick williams
It's impossible to say at this point. Williams played mostly at the center spot with Arizona while stepping out to the perimeter occasionally to hit the spot up J, but he never showed any perimeter skills outside of skipping by slower footed bigs and beating them to the bucket, and he also didn't show much at all in the mold of creating for others. He didn't do much of matching up against quicker opponents whatsoever so there really is no track record there, so nobody really has absolutely any idea if he can guard the NBA perimeter, but I guess that remains to be seen.
Kahn's collected lots of good young talent, and he should be given another year to sort it all out. But if the long-term plan is Williams/Johnson at the wings there is a problem. Both of those players rely on others to create opportunities for them and that won't bode well for any substantial success. I think there are big roster shakeups still yet to come but it remains to be seen where exactly they will come from.

Re: Derrick williams
if DW looks like he is more of a 4 instead of a 3, i think it would better going forward. Love is going to garner alot of attention when his contract is up. Beasley fits the bill for me at SF, and his next contract at most will be around 5+ million annually, im thinking its best going forward to get the most cost efficient players, no overpaying players to come here or stay here. If i was the GM i would trade Kevin Love str8 up for Derrick Favors or another high upside 6'11 PF, and extend Ant Randolph a contract as low priced as he is willing to accept when the season starts. Love is gonna get some crazy offers maybe close to max, he isn't worth it, he's a role player masquerading like a foundational player on a bad team. He can't carry a team on his own so he shouldn't be paid like he can. PLease follow this link http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... ds-go-big/
This explains my reasons for wanting to trade Love. This teams isn't gonna go anywhere with a undersized 6'9 PF as the best player, we need as many defensive minded 7-footers as we can possibly get and Love is the ticket getting those.
Passing on Demarcus Cousins for Wes Johnson is gonna haunt this team in the future i think

^^ so trade the only somewhat proven forward you have for guys with potential, extend all your question marks, and regret not adding a guy with an even more questionable attitude than Beasley? Where are you headed with this...
pretty sure trading Love for 2 other players isn't straight up either.

So instead you'd rather have a 6'8 PF as our best player?

naw actually i think DW is just a role player too no way in hell can he carry a team. the way i see how a team should be built is by the Big 3 concept, you had MJ scottie and rodman, Peirce Garnett Allen, Duncan Ginobli Parkerr. and the rest of the roster should be rounded out by hard working defensive players and offensive players coming off the bench. I think a Big 3 of D-Favors D-Cousins( add in Enes Kanter anywhere between the two of them if you want) and Beasley could have been way more promising defensively and offensively, than a Big 3 of Beasley Love Williams. If we would have drafted Kanter at least we wouldn't have to go through another season watching Darko on the court, and there wouldnt so much confusion going on between whats going to happen with Beasley and Williams at the 3 spot. I bet alot of people questioned why the Thunder drafted James Harden as high as they did, but it worked out because he was the type of player their roster needed for everything to click. Derrick Williams does none of that, he just adds more confusion and questions. Kanter would've at least suited our roster needs

my thoughts on Love is this. I feel he is a stat stuffer, sure what he does is hard work, but what he does doesn't impress me. i dont see much difference between Love and Al Jefferson, they take advantage out of being on bad teams get their stats up then get a big contract, what they do doesn't help you win basketball games. they can keep you within arms reach of winning some games through their rebounding but they shouldn't be confused with franchise players. but can you honestly close your eyes and picture Kevin Love leading the timberwolves to a championship.
And the thing about trading K Love was just for Derrick Favors. I only brought up Cousins because we could've drafted him instead of Wes

What more did he need to do to impress you? I didn't see anyone else even on good teams doing what he did.

the difference is Love's skillset is more than just being a black hole on one end of the court. Love scores inspite of the offense, he doesn't get plays run for him. They may have similar stat but thats about it. I also think the new trim and fit Love will be a better defender. Jefferson is just lazy at that end. Love just doesn't/didn't have the tool to be good, we may see a new and improved KLove out there without the weight.
but can you honestly close your eyes and picture Kevin Love leading the timberwolves to a championship.
can you close your eyes and picture Favors not turning into Sto Swift and be out of the league in 5 years?

i can picture Favors playing alot more man to man defense and protecting the rim, thats a sure thing at least. im not trying to make this an attack on Love, id just rather have as big a front line as possible for defensive purposes. you remember how Garnett held the defensive end in check, two 7-footers at the PF/C spots are the ways championships have been won recently, so i feel like we would do well to copy that. it seems we've been blindly collecting talent, with no clear model of a roster in mind

I thought I remembered Derrick saying that he's always played on the wing until he got to Arizona. UA needed size, so they asked him to bulk up and play the post.

Re: Derrick williams
Im just hopeing d will in the gym right now with wes and both of them working on there ball handling. From what ive heard d-will cant create on the wing however I'm hopeing when the season starts he will make a big impact and the three position. A 6'8 wing with his body and jump will be deadly and can make blake griffin impact. Fingers crossed!

Re: Derrick williams
Williams is more of a 4 out of college but if he can trim down to a leaner physique then under the right coaching there's no reason he can't eventually become a staring caliber 3. No doubt in my mind that he'll become a master at off the ball play in the pros. His handles are a work in progress, but at 20 years old there is plenty of room for growth. I just think at this point in his career he's best served at coming off the bench and learning the role of his new position by playing against NBA backups. Throwing him into the fire as a starting SF off the bat against starting competition at that position wouldn't be the most beneficial move, imo. Let him develop into his new role at a slower pace, somewhat similar to how Indiana did with Granger, and in the long run it'd more than likely pay off major dividends.
Bet on yourself and believe in yourself if everybody doesn't believe in you. F--k everybody else. What do they know? If you have a passion and you want to put the work into something, then chase it. If it means something to you, chase it.

Re: Derrick williams
from the little i have seen of him he is SOLELY and COMPLETELY a feet set shooter, he never shoots off the dribble. i have seen very little of him but from that i can not for the life of me see how people can think that he could possibly play the 3 in the nba....
