Wolves Hire Adelman

Could it finally be over?
The Timberwolves have started negotiations to sign Rick Adelman as their next coach, league sources with knowledge of the search said Sunday.
David Kahn, Timberwolves president of basketball operations, might know as soon as Monday whether he can land the man who has a .605 winning percentage in 20 seasons as a NBA head coach.
Adelman, 65, is believed to be seeking a five-year contract worth at least $25 million.
The Houston Rockets did not re-sign Adelman when a four-year, $16.25 million contract he signed in 2007 expired after last season.
Adelman is one of seven candidates known to have interviewed for a job that opened when the Wolves fired Kurt Rambis in July. The others: Don Nelson, Sam Mitchell, Mike Woodson, Bernie Bickerstaff, Larry Brown and Terry Porter.

It's more impressive when you consider the fact that the team lost $4 million by firing Rambis.

This probably makes me a hopeless optimist, but doesn't the timing here indicate that the CBA negotiations might actually be progressing? No need to do this if there's no season...

Wow, nice to see Jerry Zgoda using his power of the obvious for good, instead of for evil:

Just talked to @kevinlove and said he's heard "rumblings" today from various sources close to Adelman that he's the new coach.

Neither @kevinlove nor I have it confirmed absolutely solid, but we both believe Rick Adelman has accepted #Timberwolves coaching job.

Isn't Taylor involved in those CBA discussions as well considering he's the chairman of the board of governors? He probably knows when he's gotta hire a new coach, then.

Seems to be solid logic there Foye. Rumor has it Fisher sent out texts yesterday to prepare for basketball, though he's denying it today. Plus you have Roger Mason's accidental tweet last week.
September 15th is supposed to be a pretty important deadline in regards to having full training camps. It seems the last week that everyone's tune has changed and they've been making progress during meetings. Or at the very least have been having more meetings for longer. Not too long ago the two sides couldn't even sit in the same room as each other.

Its "official"
Rick Adelman, who has coached 20 NBA seasons, will be the new Timberwolves coach.
According to two league sources, Timberwolves president David Kahn is calling other candidates and telling them he has struck a deal with Adelman.
Terms of the deal, or if Adelman got the five-year, $25 million contract he was believed to be seeking, are not known.
