Trevor Ariza?

I thought I'd throw him out there. He's a lot like Afflalo imo. (Afflalo last year = Laker's version of Ariza).

He recently played for Adelman.

He's played a lot of SG in the past. (He recently guarded Kobe in the playoffs).

The Hornets only have 6 players under contract and salary cap room. Thus, they could take back 3 or even 4 players back in a deal.

Webster + Ellington + Hayward for Ariza for example?

I would be fine with that. I think he'd be solid next to Beasley.

After Houston's Trevor Ariza completed his pregame warm-ups Wednesday night at Target Center, he asked a Timberwolves official to escort him to the Wolves' locker room. Ariza wanted to say hello to somebody. "He was such a joy to work with," Wolves coach Kurt Rambis said of his three-year relationship with Ariza when they were with the Los Angeles Lakers. "He's a unique individual and terrific human being."

Rambis is gone, but I like the story. I'm in the minority here, but I was never a fan of Iguodala because of his salary and what we'd have to trade to acquire him. Ariza on the other hand appears to be much more affordable. Minnesota would have to offer more than expiring contracts (maybe some picks). I also have a feeling that NOH won't trade anybody until the CP3 situation is resolved.

I would love to try and get Ariza.

^ I think he'd take more minutes from Wes then either of them.

I'd be all for it. He's not a real good shooter, but he is streaky and he also is a solid defender who can trigger a fast break because he's one of the best "thieves" in the league. If we could get him for Webster, Ellington and Hayward I'd jump all over that.

He's very good defensively, but he's one of the worst shooters in the league. Literally, he had one of the worst shooting %'s for his position in the league.

With that, I would rather just roll with Wes who showed some promise on the defensive end last year and has a lot more upside on offense... especially given his fit with Rubio.

It depends on the style Adelman wants to play. Personally I want to see this team run run run. Let KLove worry about the boards and launch the oulet passes to our athletic young players. Wes, Beas, Rubio, Williams, Randolph, Webster and Tolliver, with Rubio orchestrating. Ariza would be ideal in that system.

Here's another idea.

Trevor Ariza

for

Webster, Ellington, Tolliver, Darko, Utah #1, Memphis #1.

Amnesty Miller.

Gives Wolves ~ $15M in cap space to go after Gasol.

Rubio/Ridnour
Ariza/Johnson/Lee
Beasley/Williams/Hayward
Love/Randolph
Gasol/Pekovic

What use the Wolves have for another wing who can't dribble (and shoot)? That place is already occupied by Wes Johnson.

Seems a bit steep for Ariza/cap space, but if the end result was Gasol, I'd be ecstatic. But Gasol would be the prize, not Ariza, who is overpaid and pretty meh skills wise. The problem is that there's a pretty high risk that Memphis matches any Gasol offer and then you're stuck with just Ariza, hoping that a good amnesty deal or trade possibility from a team dumping salary comes along.

I suppose that they could use the cap space to make an offer to the other free agent centers; I'd be more than good with Chandler or Nene if they'd sign here.

Yeah, this would be my concern. With an extremely short FA period, there likely wouldn't be time to go to a plan B. I'd love to get Gasol, though.

I'm all for opening up more cap-space. Though I'd rather try and get Afflalo than Ariza.

The only fault in your idea is that the Hornets will not add that much salary for role players.

wes at worst should be able to provide everything that afflalo provides. afflalo is pretty much strictly a catch and shoot player, shooting of off drive and kick's from teammates penetration...wes can already do this.

defensively he is an extremely good on ball defender...i see no reason why wes can't become this. i think absolute worst case that wes can bring everything that afflalo does....i see afflalo with far, far greater intangibles in wes's future.

Awesome defensive player, but equally awful on the offensive end. If we had the deep pockets of the lakers or knicks I'd trade non-essential parts for him as he'd be a terrific role player (the way the Lakers used him). But in this market he just makes too much coin to justify it.

He is not awful on the offensive end. He is very inefficient offensively, so needs to be put back into a lower usage situation so the things he does well offensively and defensively can outweigh the things he doesn't do as well.

I wouldn't at this point. He's not a bad player, but would rather see how our players fit than just dealing for a role player.

I think Ariza is the type of player who needs to be next to someone like Kobe to be successful. He isn't a shot creator in the traditional sense that you think of for a 2-guard. Now if we are considering playing him at the 3, then I'd rather roll with the high upside young guys we already have in Beas, Wes, Martell, and hopefully DWill projects there longterm.

I'd much rather get someone who can also play as an above average ball handler. I don't feel like people are considering his fit on the team, but instead they are looking at his decent talent and manageable contract. I want to stay out of the Ariza business and look at options that fit next to Love and hopefully Rubio/Williams.

How good is it to be discussing a season again!?
