Chris Paul wants to go to the Lakers, and I dunno about anyone else, but I'm darn sick of hearing it. Hornets want some young talent and draft picks in return and to make it seem like they didn't get screwed. Timberwolves have not had a winning team in about 7 years and I'm ready for excitement.
New Orleans OUT: CP3, Trevor Ariza
New Orleans IN: Derrick Williams, Anthony Randolph, Nicola Pekovic, Martell Webster, Steve Blake and two firsts (Utah, LAL)
Lakers OUT: Pau Gasol, Steve Blake, 2012 first.
Lakers IN: CP3, Ariza
Sota OUT: Derrick Williams, Anthony Randolph, Nicola Pekovic, Martell Webster and Utah 2012 first.
Sota IN: Pau Gasol
BOOM!
Rubio/Barea
Wesley/Lee/Ellington
Beasley/Tolliver
Love/
Gasol/Darko

Are you secretly a Hornets fan? This trade is horrid for the Wolves.

Don't think we'd give williams and pekovic for pau. Adding the rest is absolutely horrible.
Please leave and never come back

IMO Pau is one of the greatest PFs the game has ever seen. So yeah, maybe take out one of the firsts but this is what it'd take. Plus our payroll would go down to barely anything, probably below the minimum.

Wow that's a ton to give up for Pau.
How about Wes, Pekovic, Luke, and Webster?

I think any Pau deal has to run though HOU. I was amazed they would give that much up (Scola, Kevin Martin and a pick!) for a guy as expensive as Pau. If they will still pay that bounty (they may not with Marc Gasol and Nene signed), then other teams involved would simply be turning HOU's assets into things NOH can digest: picks, good young prospects and cap relief.

Sign Crawford for 3 years at 4.5 after that.

I could probably live with Derrick Williams and filler for Pau. We keep AR and the firsts. However, we can't trade Williams for another 28 days or whatever.

You wouldn't do Dwill, Randolph and a first for Pau?

Way too much for Pau, especially if you look at what other teams can offer.
EDIT - Sorry, I was still looking at the original offer. Here's my new critique:

I think Derrick Williams, a 1st, and someone like Ridnour/Pek would suffice.

I think New Orleans would be the ones to say no. But my first trade may have been too much, if you take out Wesley I don't see how it's bad.

Pau is 31 years old and will make close to $20 million the next couple years. He has no place on a team like the Timberwolves which is just starting to put the pieces together and won't be playing its best ball for another year or two. He needs to be on a contender. His presence will make us an also-ran border-line playoff team with a horrible cap situation. NBA purgatory, which isn't where we want to be. I don't think hanging on to D. Williams is a bad idea with Love/Beasley/Randolph up for extensions after this year. He is basically an insurance policy. Bad trade, sorry.

LA moving Pau reminds me of what Belichek does with the Patriots. He'll trade a star player just before he starts his decline, maximizing his return.

It's ok, but how will we be in a bad cap situation?
Say we give Love more than Marc Gasol's 4 year, 58 million deal. Something like 5 years 80 mil (i don't even know if that's possible, but play worst case senarios) That's 16 mil a year.
Give Beasley 3 years for 24 million, something around 8 million a year.
Next years salary:
Pau $19 mil
Love $16 mil
Beasley $8 mil
Darko $5,228,000
Barea 4.7
Wesley $4,285,560
Rubio $4,006,080 <-(this was Wesley's salary as a 4th pick in 2nd year.)
Ellington $2,083,042
Lee $1,000,000
total: 64,302,682 is the worst case scenario and we extend all out players long term to grow.

Or just keep D. Williams & Randolph for about $8 mil total. Then have roughly $53 mil. Amnesty Darko cut another $5 mil. Don't extend Beasley or Randolph... etc. There are a lot of options and flexibility that isn't available with Gasol taking up so much cap-room. Plus the $64 mil is already over cap, not great with a team that isn't finished.

Pau has a 15% trade kicker, he will make 21.5, 21.85, and 22.2 million over the next 3 years, as he ages. He is a horrible fit for us, declining and far too expensive. 50% over MAX for a 34 year old? 65.5 million for 3 years of service. That's nuts.
