Quick question. Do you guys think the T-Wolves will amnesty anyone before the season starts?

And if so, who would be the candidates? Possibly Brad Miller? Just wondering.

We'd need to have a need for the cap space, or else we may simply hold onto it. Personally, I think it's rather likely we amnesty no one. We only have about $1 mil of cap space right now anyway.

If we do use it, the names that people mentioned are:

Brad Miller - but contract is insured, and it's possible he may simply retire. His tiny guaranteed salary next year may make him a useful player in a sign-and-trade.

Martell Webster- injured with back problems, but Kahn loves him and he is the "low risk - high upside" guy that the wolves look for. He also culd be a financial asset next season.

Darko - Some think he's overpaid .. personally, I think with the contract sizes we're seeing ($7 mil for Kwame!?!), he's fine, even if he's just a back-up center. Same goes for Pekovic.

Ellington - long shot. Maybe we'd want his tiny salary voided next year, but Kahn extended him.

Martell Webster is the most likely candidate in my mind since there's no timetable for his return. It's not like Minnesota has a whole lot of alternatives at shooting guard, so it wouldn't make sense to waive him for the sake of waiving him as it will leave Minnesota a little thin in the backcourt.

I don't think we'll amnesty anyone.

If used, it'll most likely be used on Pekovic or Darko next summer.

it kinda sucks we can only use the amnesty on players we signed before the CBA, because to Kahns credit he was so careful, kinda makes me wish we were the ones to make Travis Outlaw a rich man...just to be happy when we got to amnesty him...

Yup. Just another benefit for the rich and powerful teams in the new CBA.

We don't even get scraps. Shame on us for not having bad contracts. They don't even allow us to use it on a player acquired in trade.

Pek or Darko makes the most sense to me if we need the cap space. But honestly we won't really have a good idea until we see who Adelman plays.

We don't really need to Amnesty anyone. And it is totally unfair that the irresponsible teams get a "free pass" do-over as a reward, while the solid and rational GMs like Kahn don't really get the value.

I think a rule that could be kind of cool is to always allow teams to amnesty players. It would sort of be like the contract situation in the NFL. So what if you cut a player, as long as you still have to pay them. I guess the rich teams get constant do-overs, but the players would make out like bandits in that situation.

I don't think we'll amnesty anyone, especially our bigs. The bigs got paid a lot of money in this year's free-agency.

IMO Webster is the most likely person to be amnestied. But only if we want to use that cap space on someone else.

If they were going to amnesty anyone it would have happened already. There's no point in doing it now.

Actually there is. If we Amnesty Webster we could take $6 million back in salary for cap space.

Why? If there's no potential deal in place, Kahn might just wait until they need the cap space to use the amnesty, since Taylor is paying all the contracts no matter what.

I guess. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept Webster, just because his contract is fairly good. I also wonder if Taylor would be agreeable to paying Webster to go away and then adding extra salary by taking it on in a trade.

If we are ever going to want the cap space as a trading tool for the rest of the season, we'd have to do the amnesty today, while it's still available for the season. Opportunities can arise, either from other amnesties or cap space deals before the trade deadline in February. Moreover, it'd give us an extra roster spot if the team is seriously considering keeping Bonzi.

I agree with you on Webster, but since he's out indefinitely with the back issues again, Taylor may consider using it on him if the medical report is bad enough.
