One possible reason for the Barea signing

Just an assumption, and I'm not sure if this was already mentioned, but perhaps one of the reasons Barea was considered is because Ridnour may need time to tend to his son throughout the season?

"I know there were people hurting from the lockout, and I feel for them, but the lockout was a blessing for me and my family," Ridnour said. "The extra couple of months at home gave our family more time to bond and look after our son."

Complications from the condition, known as esophageal atresia, led to several surgeries for Kyson and round-the-clock care. Ridnour said Kyson was released from the hospital on Sept. 9.

"From May to August is when things got pretty bad," Ridnour said. "We almost lost him."

If this is the case, then I am guessing he won't be traded.

Kahn has already said he won't be

Kahn quickly defused speculation regarding Ridnour, who started 66 games last at point guard, confirming that Ridnour is not on the trading block.

Kahn said he assured Ridnour that new coach Rick Adelman is prepared to use him as a complement to Rubio and the 5-foot-11 Barea, most likely as a shooting guard.

"Rick has no problem playing two small guys at the same time," Kahn said. "He sees Luke and J.J. being able to play together or off the ball. We've made a long-term commitment with J.J."

Good information. And there is probably some concern that even if Ridnour can play, he understandably may not be as prepared as usual.

I was suspicious about Kahn's statement, because it may have simply been posturing to make sure ridnour's trade value didn't decline. Now I agree he won't be traded - which might make it harder to match salaries or find an open roster spot for the team as a whole.

Everyone also seems to be emphasizing that this 66 game season is going to be brutal, so I guess having a crowded bench is a strength this year

When we traded for Barea this was the first thing I thought of. Was thinking maybe Ridnour would need some time off, or even get traded closer to home.

I suppose it's added insurance incase Rubio can't hack it in his rookie season. It just amazes me how many points David Kahn signs???? I'm not a Wolves fan so what's the overall perception of Kahn is a decent GM or what?

The team is also far more prepared to deal with any unexpected injuries that will occur throughout the season. Instead of Flynn and Telfair, Minnesota has Ridnour and Barea on the bench. Lets not forget about Derrick Williams either. Just let that sink in for a minute.
