UCLA bred, tough defenders, Afflalo improved alot as a shooter and i'm hearing that Malcolm has a better stroke than the coaching staff first thought.

Same here. However Afflalo helped lead successful UCLA teams and was far more polished offensively when he first entered the league.

Afflalo was also a true SG, Lee has a combo game

We might have a ways to go seeing as Lee still hasn't played a pre-season game yet. We all HOPE that our players all turn into HOF talents, but it isn't going to happen. I think it's a good sign that they liked him enough to sign him for multiple years. As a 2nd rounder it either means we feel like we got a steal......or we're going to find out that we got screwed.

Afflalo's a HOF talent?

Being able to defend both the 1 and 2 is a rare trait. I think the consensus is that he's a little better defender than Affalo and has drawn comparisons to Westbrook defensively. Plus he can handle the ball like a point, has a good athleticism and quick first step. He should be a nice player in the league.

I agree I was just comparing their defense.

I woudn't be surprised to see Lee start a number of games this year. I think it just makes for a better rotation with Wes off the bench at the 3 with Barea, D-Will, etc.

I would be really (pleasantly) surprised if Lee were a starter in any occasion other than Wes and Ellington both out. Maybe at the end of the year he will have taken over Ellington, but I don't think that is going to happen right now. I'm hoping Malcolm will be good, but it is probably going to take him some time to really develop an NBA type of offensive niche. I love a good defender, but they tend to have a hard time seeing minutes as rookies.

Although Mbah a Moute (another UCLA) kid was kind of the exception to that rule. I do think Moute had more going on in college though.

I could see him joining Rubio in starting 5. Rick likes ballhandlers, and if Wes struggles, I could see a switch.

Lee looks like he can play and defend 2 positions, Afflalo is strictly a 2. Afflalos great strength is his offensive efficiency (great shooting + low turnovers). Lee dropped in the draft due to his shooting. If he can improve his shooting he could be a really valuable rotation player.

Those are nice options off our bench for the 2. I kinda actually like the options we have at the 2 to keep other teams guessing and to match up against different teams. Wes can add size and rebounding when we run a smaller frontcourt lineup, Barea can be a nightmare as a penetrator and all around pest, Wayne can shoot over zones and Lee can defend anyone (at least as well as that's possible in this league). Maybe it's better to multiple option there than just 1 guy. It worked for Dallas last year.

Do people really think Lee is going to play solid minutes this season?

It depends. If Webster doesn't come back healthy or Adelman doesn't feel comfortable playing him then I'd say he has a decent chance of getting minutes. If Ridnour were to get moved at some point too, that'd increase his chances.

Rubio, Barea, Johnson, Ellington and Ridnour are all in front of him. He is our 5th/6th guard at the moment. 6th/7th when Webster gets back.

He will see minutes only if there is multiple injuries.

Lee must be the most hyped second round pick of all time.
