DAL GETS: Brad Miller + Martell Webster

MIN GETS: Haywood + Damion Jones + $3 mil cash (if Cuban hasn't thrown it into a deal in 2011-12)

MIN's ability to use the partially-guaranteed contracts to give a team instant, off-season cap space would allow DAL to use both Hayward and Marion all year long to defend their championship, and still have the cap space to make a play for Dwight Howard.

Next year, Haywood + Dominique Jones (if he doesn't perform) for Brad Miller and Webster turns $10.6 mil in salary into $1.4 mil in cash + $9.2 mil in cap space.

Haywood's deal is long, but looks cheap compared to other new contracts for centers:

Why would Dallas do it?

They can still deal Haywood next season if they need room for Dwight and they won't be a contender without Haywood.

After the season we will know if the Wolves would rather have a center that demands starter minutes or give those minutes to Williams with Love at center.

Again, this is after the 2011-12 season -- next year.

Expirings can't be dealt after the February trade deadline, so the partially guaranteed contracts we'd trade later would allow them to contend for the rest of this season, and still, instantly have the cap space to add Dwight next year.

Not a fan of Haywood or his deal. Darko is cheaper and offers the same things.

If Dallas needs cap room for williams/howard, they will just amnesty haywood and cut odom (only 2.4 mil guaranteed). In fact, I'll be surprised if Haywood is not amnestied next offseason.

I like the use of the miller/webster trade chip, but not for haywood. If we see someone we like in the draft, I'd consider taking on a short contract or 2 for a lottery pick.

Haywood may be amnestied instead... but I guess if Dallas can pull off this trade, they may just amnesty Marion instead. That'd clear Marion and Haywood salaries
