Fantasy question about Darko...

Post#1 » by ChampionRed » Wed Dec 21, 2011 4:49 pm

Hey Wolves fans, I'm looking for a Center to pick up in fantasy to give me blocks and rebounds. I know Darko was pretty decent last season but with the addition of Derrick Williams, I was wondering if Darko is still going to be a reliable fantasy player? Thanks!

Darko should still be okay. He had 4 rebounds and 3 blocks in just 19 minutes against Bogut on Saturday.

You might be better of picking up Derrick Coleman.

Basically I think his production outside of scoring will be as good or better overall per minute, and his scoring will go down a bit. The question is how many minutes he'll play. I think he's a safe bet for 1.7+ blocks and 5+ rebounds, and might actually be pretty good if Adelman can get him to not be a mental case. Darko hustling on both ends of the floor and playing the game right could actually happen with Adelman here.

I wouldn't touch Darko with a 10 foot pole.

He was very productive early last year, but injuries caused his numbers to fall significantly. He's a safe pickup. Just don't expect him to be a diamond in the rough type of guy.

He is good in blocks and below avg everywhere else, and a TO machine.
And that's if he is getting minutes.

I'd be very surprised to see him top 20 minutes per game this year as we will be going small A TON.
He will see decent minutes when we play the bogut/bynum/howards.

If it is blocks you are looking for I can see him getting around 1.5/game, but he won't hit the 2.0 he averaged last year.

Much depends on Anthony Randolph. If Randolph plays his way out of the rotation Darko will be a primary beneficiary.

I wouldn't pick him up as your 1st C, but if you're in a late round and just looking for someone to give you blocks then sure, pick him up.

Leave Darko for someone else to pick up.

I'm not sure what your fantasy system if (roto, HTH, daily, weekly, games played limits, etc) but here's a secret for you. What is the main category you want to maximize?

The answer: minutes.

Fantasy hoops is about production, and your guys aren't producing if he's sitting on the bench. Darko may be MIN's starting center, but his minutes will be questionable because of the number of other options that can play center.

When looking for an end-of-roster center (I'm not sure how big your league is), I'd focus on teams that are limited for size. Keep an eye on your PF's too, and learn the rules in your league that would make a player center-eligible. Also, if you'rein a weekly league, look at #2 centers when a team has 5 games over your weekly timespan. The key for you is to generate minutes.

Please tell me that you're playing in a 25-team league. Otherwise I can't see any reason to even remotely consider Darko a starter. Depending on the rules of your league, I would agree with Shrink in that you're looking for how much play, but also whether or not your league has elegibility situations where a player may gain Center elegibility at some point early in the year.

Otherwise, I foresee Adelman using Darko only as much as he absolutely has to. Otherwise he'll use an undersized lineup as much as possible. With Love, Tolliver, Randolph, Pekovic and eventually Brad Miller in the fold, I see Darko having a tough time getting serious time.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm in a 12 team head to head league...and I already have McGee and Hibbert as my centers but I was looking for one more guy to maybe get a block or 2. Darko seemed to be the best available based on last year but I guess I'll wait it out for the season to start.

* Darko Milicic: Darko’s value is in the blocks, plain and simple. He is going to score about 8 points and grab about 5 boards, but he should also block about 2 shots per night. Meaning, for someone that owns a Monroe or Jefferson, Milicic is a great late round grab to make up for the blocks.

I just assumed he was looking at free agent Cs, obviously not picking him high.

Darko may be your best bet, but I'd need to know other available players. If Derrick Favors is available, he's looking at some decent minutes this year with the Okur trade. Come to think of it, Okur isn't a bad option either.
