BOS-HOU-MIN (playing with Rondo rumor)

I was listening to Cory Cove this morning, when he said something like:

"You know, I don't have any sources for this, but I was just thinking that if Derrick Williams doesn't develop, Beasley might not be here past the trade deadline. And you know what team might like him? BOS, with the loss of Jeff Green."

Now, I don't know about that, but if it was to happen, the Celtics would have to move someone like Rondo.

So tonight I heard a rumor, which may not be true, but:

GreenMachine wrote:Celtics pre-game. Donny said there is still (new) trade talk regarding Rondo.

He said - it was "somewhere out West" and "somewhere warm". He also said that people would be surprised by the team we are talking to based on who they have on their roster and that it would probably be a 3-team deal if it gets done because we don't want anyone from that team.

Well, WE'RE a third team, and we may like different assets than BOS, because they want to win a championship with vets this year, and not take on any longterm salary.

Both pieces of info may be wrong, but does anyone want to connect the dots and see if there is a legitimate possibility here?

How is this a coincidence?

Why is Ainge thinking of shipping out Rondo? Does he honestly believe he won't be good once the big 3 all retire? They should rebuild with him.

He's not bad, but he's overrated with a nasty attitude. It just seems odd that Boston is always trying to trade him.

Two Rondo sightings for me in the brief time I've had to check out bball today. ::shrug::

They say they need some size, scoring and a new PG. Do you think we could make a third-team package around Beasley + Ridnour + Tolliver? I know our future is committed to Rubio, but whatever some other team might give may be a good haul for our assets?

Maybe its a typo, but if Williams DOESN'T develop I would expect Beasley to be here long term.

Also, "somewhere warm" pretty much crosses us off that list.

What does Boston have to offer us for Beasley? If for some reason he goes (I dont think he will be traded this season) he won't be going for picks. I don't think Kahn is interested in building through the draft more, it's about taking advantage of the pieces he has gathered.

He was patient his first two years getting rid of bad contracts and players. Now that he has brought a very talented young core together with a PROVEN high level coach, no reason to trade a player that could be Carmelo lite if he draws more fouls.

Rondo makes zero sense here.

the only 2 people I'd want from Boston are Pierce (I don't think they could ever trade him away) and KG, who makes little sense. Beasley/Webster/Darko/Miller for KG and a some future picks?

clear out the massive logjam up front, KG will expire and possibility of a midround pick down the road?

Trading Rubio now = Mayhem ... visions of Blackhawk Choppers circling Target Center.

Like the Vikings bringing in old QB's after their prime. Anyway, Pierce wouldnt come here but I could see KG make a final stand at Target center with Love and Rubio

I wrote this over on the Trade Board:

shrink wrote: It's possible that BOS has made the decision: "We want players that can help us now, but they must be expiring." If they move Rondo, and with no Jeff Green, next year the only thing on their roster is Pierce, their two cheap 1st round picks from the last couple years, Wilcox at $3, and Brandon Bass is he chooses to pick up his $4 mil player option. If Bass says no, they only have $22 mil in payroll. They may feel this is their best way to grab Dwight Howard plus another superstar free agent (Deron?)? They can tell Dwight, "We already have a city that has history and publicity, a superstar in Pierce, and if you can convince some other superstar to join us, we have a new Big Three.

PHX doesn't fit, if that's their goal, because Nash is an expiring. I would wager they need a replacement for Rondo and Jeff Green, and they could use some size and scoring .. but it has to be expiring.

shrink wrote:Could it be HOU?

1. Neither Kevin Martin or Scola are expiring
2. They were on the block before and may be miffed, want a trade
3. HOU loves Lowry - matches the "surprised based on who's on the roster"
4. Warm
5. West

LAL fits too, but I just cannot see BOS helping LAL this year, and improving a potential rival for one last ring.

Of course, the original rumor probably has only a slim chance of being true, but it's an interesting thing to ponder.

The reason I brought it over here was because MIN has a couple pieces that BOS could use that fit this criteria, in Beasley and Tolliver. What do you think of this?

BOS SENDS: Rondo
BOS GETS: Dragic + Beasley + Tolliver

HOU GIVES: Dragic + Kevin Martin + NYK 1st (top 5 protected)
HOU GETS: Rondo + $3.6 mil cap space

MIN GIVES: Beasley + Tolliver + $3 mil cap space
MIN GETS: Kevin Martin + NYK 1st (top 5 protected)

I'm in favor of any reasonable offer that brings Kevin Martin to this team.

meh I want to keep tolliver for his intensity and Beasley for at least this year to see what happens.... lets just send out Wes/AR/Pek and a Pick for Iggy...

Darko - Tolliver
Love - Williams
Beasley - Webster
Iggy - Lee
Rubio - Barea

My Kevin Martin moment has passed. I would rather see what a healthy Beasley can do and build off of that. We could most certainly use a spot-up SG, but we also need someone who can defend and Martin absolutely doesn't defend.

Short of finding some way of getting access to a lottery pick that will likely be top 6 next year or finding a solution at C, I am willing to sit tight and see what we have. No more shuffling.

Pek is an efficient post scorer with average defense that is improving.

Beas is an inefficient scorer with average defense (to be nice).

Yet ... we want hand Beas another year to just see more, but willing to dump Pekovic ... AR yes, but this board generally has an extremely low value for an inside scoring presence @ a measley $5 million. Pek got hosed under Rambis and just needs time with a good coach that can manage a team with consistency.

Beas (to date) is a proven chump looking for his next contract, so it'll be interesting to see how he moves forward under Adelman ... this coaching change might be his best chance to mature and cash in or he will quickly play his way out of here by the deadline.

I don't see us making any moves until at least the trade deadline. Of course we'll need to do something to get down to 15 guys, but that likely will involve just cutting Bonzi.
