Basically just the usual Vecsey non-sense, but I thought I'd start a thread before "Love won't sign with Wolves" starts on the Wiretap and Knicks fans start with their Amare for Love and Rubio trade offers.

Sad thing is, most of the Knicks fans would think Amare for Love and Rubio would be giving up too much, when is reality, you could not get me to do Amare for Love straight up.

Obviously Love is a smart guy and knows his value, but I really doubt Love would set that date. He does not seem to be that type of guy.

I know it's just Vecsey but why are they waiting to offer an extension. He is playing out of this world.

Can't wait to hear Woj comment on this article (actually I want to read it)

-Love doesn't want to play in Minnesota
-Love likes money, so he signed a contract
-Their success is from luck, not design

1) There may be a gap b/t what Love believes he is worth (Max) and what the Wolves think he is worth/want to pay him (Marc Gasol/Nene money). A knee jerk max extension offer after a few hot shooting games isn't good for anyone.

2) If they're going to give him the max anyway, then he'll definitely sign it whenever it's offered.

3) They may be worried about chemistry. If we give Love the max, then offer Beasley $8M/year, imagine how that's going to affect the dynamic in the locker room.

I think 1 is a legitimate concern. 2 is probably true, but there's no guarantee. I wouldn't worry about 3, if anything I'd be more concerned about giving Love a positive feeling about the organization.

I would offer him the max right now. Reasons for me are that 1. He has been playing at at extremely high level since last year, and seems to have improved this year so far. 2. Has shown the willingness to work on his game and body during the offseason to be the best he can be. 3. Media figure already, ESPN loves him.

Well love has been in the all star game and in the national team in the same period of time in the league and michael would know that is worth some millions more. But beasley for 4/5 years at 8kk could be a very good deal in years to come. Even more if you count rookie contracts we have.

Why wouldn't we extend him asap?

Bingo Kevin Love is a Max(or very close to that) player. He's a top 15 player in the league right now and the way he's playing arguably a top 10 player.Plus he's the face of the franchise(sorry Rubio but your Robin to Love's Batman) and lastly their is no other player in the league that can put up the rebounding numbers that he does.

If they don't give him a long term deal have fun when he's with the Thunder with Durant and Westbrook dominating the division and winning multiple NBA Titles.

Hmm, I'm just the opposite on #1. He showed a whole season last year that he was probably near max and has come in this year 20+ pounds lighter, more focused on his game and being a leader, and has improved numbers early on. There really should not be any doubt he's going to get a max deal.

This sounds a whole lot like an agent trying to pressure a team into making an offer sooner rather than later. (Love’s agent is Jeff Schwartz, I don’t know Vecsey’s sources but draw your own conclusions.) The team is taking its time (they have until the 25th), the player and agent want to move things along, so they set an artificial deadline. They threaten not to sign qualifying offers and try to get out of town.

None of this is going to happen, Love is going to get his extension. For all the laughing at Wolves GM David Kahn over the years (and there have been good reasons to do so) he has built a good young team with Love, Ricky Rubio and some solid players around them (and Michael Beasley). It took a while for Love to get out of Kurt Rambis’ dog house, but he has blossomed. You don’t let Love go, not even Kahn would do that. The deal will happen. This is just the blustery negotiations.

Hard not to give him max considering he came off a huge statistical year, and then proceeded to work hard on his body over the summer and come back even better it looks like. That's the kind of work ethic I want my max guys to have. If he's demanding it, I'd probably give it to him at this juncture. It could be some of that "small market mentality" kicking in, but I think it'd be tough to lose a guy like Love for this franchise. I think him, Rubio, and Williams could form quite the trio.

That said, I wouldn't fall into the trap of the agent forcing things and all of that. No way Love doesn't sign a healthy extension when offered, whenever it's offered.

Derrick Williams, Michael Beasley, and Ricky Rubio will have to be re-signed too someday. Kahn believes Love will be somewhat flexible when it comes to contract negotiations, but he's still a 25/15/2 player.

I'm sure the original article is all bull but I say just give him the max. Trying to save a few million is not worth possibly offending Love.

Give him the max and get it over with, He played out of his mind last year and might have been close to max imo. This year he's played out of everyones mind and looks like a different player

Am I the only one who believes he won't get the max? They set up their own deadline, but not a max contract ultimatum. Kahn is obviously trying to save a few million dollars, so I could see Kahn trying to sell Love a better future by taking a small (emphasize small) paycut. It's a pretty good selling point considering how well Williams and Rubio are performing.

It was debatable before the start of the year whether deserved the max, but with the way he's started this year it's no doubt. Ideally, we could until the end of the season and just offer him max because he'll most likely take it, but I don't want risk making him disgruntled. Things are finally going well.
