Horford + Kwame injuries = trade possibilities?

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Thu Jan 12, 2012 9:43 pm

Both Horford and Kwame are going to be out 3 months with torn pectoral injuries.

Any trade ideas to send them Darko, Pekovic, or Tolliver?

One idea that someoen proposed in the past would seem to make a lot of sense now:

Ridnour + Darko/Pek for Hinrich

I would definitely like that trade. It may not work with the current direction of the team but maybe adding Beasley, Wes, or Randolph to get Josh Smith. The way we have been playing tolliver as or defensive specialist, Smith would be a great fit. Rubio, Hinrich, Webster, Smith, Love.

I don't think we could get Smith with all those guys combined but if we could I would love it.

I think he would be decent. He can play shooting guard, with his size and his ability to play defense.

He's expiring though. dumping Ridnour/Pek saves us money and gives us more roster flexibility.

Hinrich is a PG first, and he's past his prime. I wouldn't want to depend on him to log heavy minutes at the 2.

Now i see the interest in Hinrich as a salary dump. The thing is arent the Hawks trying to do the same, dump salary?

The Hawks need bodies. They have JJ/Horford/Smith/Marvin locked up into long deals that take up most of their cap room. Those 4 are making about $50m right now which leaves them only $10m to make a capable roster.lol They have Teague on a rookie deal which helps but still not much.

Pek or Darko + Rid for Hinrich, then sign Przybilla...tons of win in that in my eyes

Pek + Ridnour for Hinrich + Atl 1st

I'd rather have Pek + Ridnour on the roster then cap space, so we need a bit of incentive (Ridnour has positive value and Pek is still an intriguing player)

Would you rather have those guys or $8M extra to throw at Eric Gordon, Batum, Chandler, Asik, or Gerald Wallace just to name a few.

I'd much rather have the money to go after Batum/Gallo/McGee/Asik/Gordon/Chandler for sure. If we traded Pek/Ridnour and then amnesty Darko...waive Webster/Miller we'd have quite a bit to offer before a Love extension.lol

Ridnour is clearly worth his contract, and people can debate on Pekovic.

I'd have done this deal for the Hinrich of two years ago -- probably not now. The ATL 1st helps though.

If ATL included their first round pick I'd have a hard time passing. Ridnour and Hinirch are pretty similar players imo, Ridnour is probably a slightly better offensive player but I think Hinirch's size and defense gives him an advantage on defense especially in 2 PG sets. Problem being Hinirch is out for about month.

Not sure it's debatable at this point. Maybe before the year started, but not now that the guy doesn't get off the bench on a bad team -- playing behind Darko, who has been atrocious. It's not like he's some project, the guy is 25 going on 26.

I had brought up the idea of Hinrich on another topic, and my reasoning was that he'd be a great veteran combo-guard that does not need tons of minutes anymore ... a little more size in this 2 guard offense would be nice at times, and I think he'd be very helpful with keeping Lee on the right track.

Where's Narf? He'll debate you on stats.

But I talk money. If Pekovic wasn't a true center, I'd go along with you too, but man - NBA GM's seem to give huge amounts to centers. You know who else wasn't a prospect? Kwame Brown, and he was given a $7 mil contract. For his contract, Pek only has to reach the bar of "back-up center." He's not there yet for the Adelman, but I'm not sure that would be true for all the coaches or GM's out there.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I just said it's a debate.
