Barea or Ridnour??

Since we've signed Barea there's been a lot of talk about trading Ridnour. However, lately Ridnour and Rubio have looked pretty good when on the court together. With Johnson, Tolliver, and Williams shooting poorly from 3, Ridnour adds some much needed shooting to spread the floor and give someone for Rubio to kick it out to. Ridnour has been our best 3 point shooter the last two years. Ridnour has also upped his defensive play this year.

On the other hand, Barea gives us someone that can penetrate and get into the paint when Rubio's off the floor -- something that is not exactly a strength of Ridnour's.

Including this year, Barea is due $19M/4 years. Ridnour is due $12M/3.

So my question to you is, if we were to trade one of these players, who would you rather trade and why?

I wouldn't trade either until we acquire a sg that deserves 35+ minutes a game.

Can we keep both? If we had a shooting guard that could shoot, it would make Ridnour more expendable. I haven't seen enough Barea to really say one way or the other. I don't know, can't decide.

Ok, if that's the consensus, assume we decide to put one in a trade for a SG or for cap space that would allow us to sign a SG next year. Which one?

I would trade Ridnour because I think we could get more in return for all the reasons you stated... Specifically, he's a better 3pt shooter and he is cheaper.

Ridnour, I suppose, because his skill set is more SG-like and would be replaced by the SG we are getting back (at least in theory).

I'm guessing peeps were mostly hating Ridnour because he was starting instead of Rubio. He's been one of our top 3 players all year.

Barea plays better defense and can break down defenses and push the ball up the court faster, I like him quite a bit better for this team. (As a backup PG that is, as a SG my answer is neither, get a real SG David ...not a small forward because Rambis told you small forwards and shooting guards are the same thing, not a point guard because "yea but Dumars and Isiah Thomas!", a shooting guard)

+ a lot

Barea is a very good backup pg. He is experienced and pushes the ball fast down the court. I see no value him pairing with Rubio.

Not even close.

Don't let this last game fool you. He will not go 10-14 with 9 assists again this year. He is more likely to go 7-14 (Which is still not bad) with 3 assists.

What those stats will not tell you however is that 4 of those 7 misses came from him dribbling the ball down the court and hoisting a three pointer before the big men get there to rebound.

They will also not show you that his direct opponent outscored him by 6 points.

They will also not show you how many times he pounded the ball for 15 of the 24 second shot clock.

Ridnour is the one we should trade.

Ridnour is the one we should trade.

He is currently at .624% TS%, 114 ORtg 104 Drtg. Of all of the players to harp on (Darko, Wes, Beasley), Luke should not be one of them. He has been pretty solid. I just don't understand the hate.

Ridnour has more value to teams around the league IMO. Teams interested are likely playoff teams with a ball-dominant wing (Lakers, Knicks, etc). Ridnour would work perfectly off of a Bryant or Anthony, while Barea needs the ball in his hands.

I'd also say that Barea has more value to us than Ridnour. We don't have dominant ballhandlers/shot-creators outside of Ricky, so when Ricky is on the bench, we need someone who can do those same things. Barea and Ricky also seem to have a great relationship, and I'd hate to break those two up. Barea is perfect in a mentorship role, having learned from Jason Kidd.
