MIN - PHX - ORL

I'm not a big fan of this deal, but I do enjoy getting players to teams where they would have the most value:

MIN GIVES: Derrick Williams, Luke Ridnour, Pekovic
MIN GETS: Gortat + JJ Redick

ORL GIVES: JJ Redick + Jameer Nelson
ORL GETS: Steve Nash + Luke Ridnour

PHX GIVES: Steve Nash + Gortat
PHX GETS: Derrick Williams + Pekovic + Jameer Nelson

WHY FOR MIN? Fills their two biggest positions of need. Gortat is a risk, because he can leverage himself out next year if he's unhappy.

WHY FOR ORL? Steve Nash only has big value to teams that desperately need to win this year. He gives ORL their best chance in the play-offs, and their best chance of keeping Dwight.

WHY FOR PHX? Returns Arizona alumni Derrick Williams, where he'd have the most value of anywhere in the NBA. Sarver will like that he's cheap and he will sell tickets for years. Nash could be gone next year for nothing, and Gortat has leverage to force his way out .. why would fans still come? Good way to rebuild.

Poor Suns. I like it though! I'd imagine the Magic would do it.

I'm not really sure what to make of this one. Part of me says that I should be thrilled to have a full-time solution at C, but I would REALLY prefer this deal if you could replace Pek with Darko. Of the three I think Orlando would be the most inclined to say no since they're giving up a young PG for a half-season rental. Phoenix comes out of this deal pretty well since I don't see Nash coming back so they're trading an aging rental star and a center for the #2 overall pick, an improving young center, and a PG that was an all-star just a couple years ago.

Maybe tweak it a bit to move Darko in for Pek and maybe have the Wolves sending the Utah pick to Orlando.

They are in bad shape no matter what they do. Nash will be gone, and I can't imagine Gortat wouldn't force his way out. I imagine Williams is one of the best assets Sarver would get for revenue-production. I remember them approaching us about trading for the #2 before the draft, but what could they really offer? I'd toss them a pick though, but I'd want to talk to Gortat to see if we at least have a chance he'd sign with us.

One other thing that's nice about this deal is that the Suns have said they'd let Nash retire a Sun, and Nash has never pushed a move - neither wants to look bad now to suns fans. A deal like this, where PHX sends Nash to a true contender, might be seen as a nice thing to do for a very deserving star.

I think for Phoenix it makes complete sense since they aren't playing for anything, their superstar is all but done and Gortat is really their lone asset. I have no issue moving Williams but I do think he'll turn into something pretty good down the line so I want #2 pick value for him. Are Redick and Gortat #2 value - especially when you add in Pek and Luke?

Some of juice for getting Gortat has waned with Darko and Pek playing as well as they have this past week. I know, I should know better than to trust Darko, but they're production has equalled Gortat's and we keep Luke, Pek and Williams......

I think I'm resolved to keeping Williams unless it's in a package to acquire something along the lines of Gordon. What is the status of Phoenix's first rounder? I realize they will hard-pressed to move that pick, but I wonder if they still own their own pick.

Interesting trade. Has Nash hinted at retiring? His mileage isn't too bad for someone in their upper 30s. It could be a last ditch chance to try and entice Howard to stay.

I'm not sure I like it for us, but it is still interesting and would make us a better team - at least until Williams becomes a beast.

I wouldn't do it. I think Gortat is overrated but I do like JJ. He would be great here. Williams has too much potential to deal him for a couple role players.

Maybe young is a poor term, but he's a decade younger than Nash.....

I agree with this. I want more back if I'm giving up Williams.

Maybe I should put in the "rights to Fran Vazquez!" that everybody loves!

Not bad, I'd probably want a pick back, maybe a 2nd from Phoenix. But it's fair.
Saw another great idea on the trade board, that seems fair as well.

Magic > Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu
Magic < Andrew Bynum, Wes Johnson, Michael Beasley

Lakers > Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol
Lakers < Dwight Howard, Luis Scola, Hedo Turkoglu

Rockets > Kevin Martin, Luis Scola
Rockets < Pau Gasol

Wolves > Wes Johnson, Michael Beasley
Wolves < Kevin Martin

Orlando - dump Hedo while landing some young talent
Nelson/Duhon
J. Richardson/Redick
Johnson/Q. Richardson
Anderson/Beasley
Bynum/Orton

Los Angeles - get another superstar center from Orlando
FIsher/Blake
Bryant/Barnes
Artest/Turkoglu
Scola/Murphy
Howard

Houston - apparently they want Gasol
Lowry/Dragic/Flynn
Lee/Williams
Budinger/Morris
Gasol/Patterson
Dalembert/Hill

Minnesota - get an upgrade at SG
Rubio/Ridnour/Barea
Martin/Ellington
Williams/Webster
Love/Randolph
Milicic/Pekovic/Tolliver

Love is also a role player in a certain way.

That would suck for HOU. Scola is a good player and shouldn't be a throw in for LA. Pau's contract and age make him an undesirable in my mind. Its not that he can't still play ball, but he is no longer the centerpiece of a top 4 playoff team (memphis was pretty mediocre even when he was in his prime).
