MIN-POR upgrade wing (Matthews) dump Darko

Post#1 » by big3_8_19_21 » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:39 pm

Min trades:
Darko Milicic
Wes Johnson
Luke Ridnour
Utah 1st

Why? Upgrade wings and dump some salary to get another wing in FA this summer. I'm sure there may be some resistance to including the Utah 1st, but we're getting the best player in the deal and getting a pretty sizable expiring contract. Obviously I'd try to give them the 2013 Memphis pick first, but I don't think Portland pulls the trigger unless it's the Utah pick.

Portland trades:
Wesley Matthews
Raymond Felton ($7.6 mil expiring)

Why? With Felton's horrible play they upgrade PG and acquire 1st round pick.

Wes Matthews is not worth his contract, let alone wes, luke, and a pick.

I tend to agree its too much for Matthews.

Sometimes I overcompensate in an attempt not to be a homer. Could this be tweaked? What if it was the Memphis 1st instead of the Utah pick?

That would be better, but what is the point of this trade? To dump salary for the off-season in addition to getting Matthews? Its not bad if that is the goal.. but Henderson may be a better option for that.

Yep, I just wanted a wing that is at least minimally competent on this team plus a bit of cap flexibility to make an offer on another this summer in FA.

Darko is the worst part of the deal though.

Wes + Luke = Matthews

Darko + pick = Felton

I think the value is pretty close.

Would Portland pay Wallace and Batum 10mil each after taking on this addition salary? I don't think so. That would be an added bonus for us.

I like it.

A late first is not even remotely near compensation for that.

Am I the only one who thinks Darko being a top 15 defensive center on a reasonable contract gives him value as a role player off the bench?

I don't think he has no value, but apparently Mr. Neuticles does. I just think this deal puts us in a better position to fill out our line-up.

This one is interesting as a buy-low offer on Matthews. He hasnt been nearly as good this year as he was last year, a lot of that has to do with his low usage and jamal crawford.

Portland isn't taking on Darko's salary.

Ridnour+Wes+pick for matthews straight up works, or swap an expiring webster or miller for Felton.
Ridnour going there makes sense, he played at Oregon and they need a PG.

I don't think they trade Matthews until Batum is locked up long term, if at all, and if they put him on the block they'd immediately get lots of pretty nice offers for him.

I think Wes's shooting struggles would be too much trouble, or the value would be close. But Portland probably demands Derrick Williams in a Matthews trade, and rightfully so. Even struggling, he's a very good 2-way player.

Disagree with all of that. Wes Johnson is worth nothing, Luke is slight positive value, and the pick is mediocre.

Shrug. He's a bottom 1 offensive center, so it's pretty neutral at best.

Not saying I'd do it. But that's what they'd want at a minimum for matthews.

Well I agree he's a terrible starter with awful offense. But it's not neutral if he's a defensive stopper off the bench. Dwight Howard had problems scoring with Darko in for crying out loud. That's worth $5 mil off the bench for 18 minutes a game for a playoff team all day. There aren't many anti-Bynum/Howard/Pekovics out there ;)
