MN, POR, and NJ...

Post#1 » by Danimals » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:30 am

I got the basic idea from the trade board.

Williams to NJ

Lopez to POR

Batum to MN

But that's not enough for Williams you say? And POR needs a PG? And NJ would love to open up even more capspace next year? No prob.

Williams and Felton to NJ

Lopez and Farmar to POR

Batum and Morrow to MN

Wait a minute, POR wants RIdnour not Farmar. OK, then Farmar goes to MN and Ridnour to POR. Hell, if POR wants Ridnour and Farmar, they can have both and this trade still works.

Why do these teams do this?

MN trades potential for two absolutely perfect fits. Morrow reigns threes all day and Batum is a jack of all trades who also defends up to 4 positions. Morrow is signed through next year and Batum is a RFA, so he can't leave MN.

POR needs a center going forward and they get one without giving up Camby for this years playoff run. They also need a pg right now, Felton is struggling in this offense. In this trade they pick up two young veterans with divers skill sets, who are both on fair contracts.

NJ doubles down with Lopez to get Williams. Instead of a big pay day this off-season and poor fit next to soon to be FA aquisition Howard, they get a PF who would fit great in-between D-Will and Second Superman, and is on the first year of his rookie contract. NJ also moves next years salary commitments to Morrow and Farmar. If they are really greedy, they could probably sneak one of Petro or Shawne Williams in this trade by using a draft pick for compensation.

What needs to be adjusted? I see a lot of potential here for a trade.

If POR needs a PG, why are you trading one away? Felton >> Farmar (or Ridnour)

Have POR send NJ Camby instead, since they're getting Lopez anyways

Getting both Batum and Morrow would be incredible. Batum and Ricky's defense could make up for whatever Morrow lacks in the defensive department.

Rubio
Morrow
Batum
Love
Pekovic

Wow. That lineup would compliment itself very well. Both Morrow and Batum are very quick and athletic and would fit in perfect next to Rubio. Teams would pay dearly for doubling down on Pekovic with Love, Batum and Morrow out on the perimeter. I've been in agreement with trading for Morrow or Batum, but getting both would be beyond a pipe dream.

Portland is pretty down on Felton. I'd think they'd want someone better than Farmar. Ridnour would be good as long as they're getting Lopez. I can't see them moving Batum though.

not enough for Williams? I would trade Williams for Batum faster than I can get an erection when I see Scarlett Johannson.

Wolves IN: Matthews, Batum
Wolves OUT: Beasley, D Williams, Utah 1st Rd Pick
Why: Wolves finally secure a more balanced lineup and true SG in Matthews (who they prefer over Morrow in this trade scenario).

Blazers IN: Lopez, Farmar, Morrow, Utah 1st Rd Pick via Wolves
Blazers OUT: Batum, Matthews, Smith
Why: Blaz finally secure a legit center (Lopez) to pair up with LMA and add some nice depth and balance to lineup.

Nets IN: Beasley, D Williams, Smith
Nets OUT: Lopez, Morrow, Farmar
Why: Trading Lopez hurts their Howard trade deadline potential, but increase offseason signing potential. Beasley is a nice EC/QO contract and D Williams can be start of rebuilding project for Nets (or Magic if part of trade). Nets also need forward depth on thin roster.

I like that trade..

intially I was thinking I much rather get Morrow, but then when I thought about, Matthews was great when he had a pass first PG (Andre Miller) next to him. He is not quite the sniper that Morrow is, but he is a better all around player who is capable of hitting the 40% threshold...especially with PekLove commanding doubles and Rubio passing him the ball. Neither player has big time handles... but both would fit our offense beautifully (with Wes having better D)

Pekovic / Milicic
Love / Randolph / Tolliver
Batum / Johnson
Matthews / Lee
Rubio / Ridnour / Barea

We could then use Ridnour or Barea as part of a package to get a good 3rd big in the offseason. Milicic and Randolph/Tolliver might be good if they accept their roles.. 10 to 15 MPG.

I would love getting Batum and either Matthews or Morrow.

I like the idea of getting Matthews and Batum but I think Portland really likes those two as well. I don't see them going for a package centered around Lope.
