Let me introduce myself first. I'm a Spanish guy that has followed the NBA a lot mainly since the Pau Gasol trade. I got engaged with the game really quickly ( and it changed my sleep hours lol. I watch 2 games daily).

I wast just wondering why do the Timberwolves have so many white guys (ricky, love, luke, JJ barea, Pekovic, Darko). Is it something that comes with your culture? Or is it just a coincidence?

Sorry for this silly first thread. I will try to contribute in the game threads

PD: I really enjoy watching wolves games!

Hey, welcome to the forums. We're all proud to have so many international fans posting on the Wolves' board.

I am guessing it's a combination of two things. Number one, chance. There's no way you make a plan of collecting white guys in the NBA. It just wouldn't work, and would be a firing offense if it ever slipped out.

Two, the changing face of the NBA. 2/3 of our white guys are international. Barea, Rubio, Pekovic and Darko compared to Love and Ridnour.

But it is funny, that's for sure.

p.s. and they are not high all the time and care about winning and not just bling and hoes.

Don't forget Miller, too.

As a black guy living in Cincinnati when I was looking at the T Wolves play the NYK I was
thinking the same thing. I asked my son in law(white guy) & he said you know brothers don't
like snow. I was going to ask on this board but didn't want to come off as a racits.

PS I think Rubio is a beast.

It wasn't Kahn that gave up a 1st rounder to trade Cassell for a light skinned guy..

Kahnsy just trying to bring the fans back in the building. It's no easy task with a long history of losing. He's trying a new approach. Did you hear the latest Gasol rumor? Pau in, Beas, DWill out. Open your eyes people. Stop being so PC.

With Gasol they could run a unique all white/all beard lineup, would only require Luke or JJ not to shave for a few days

The T-wolves have many white guys because your GM like to import talent from over seas via late firsts and second round draft picks. It's a good strategy. Once drafted the player can't sign with any other team unless draft rights are moved around. If the player was a super star in one league he's being paid rookie/veteran minimum money to perform as an apprentice in this league for a few years. If he plays up to his potenial he's good cheap help for a few years. If he doesn't the gamble is easy to write off.

The culture in the NBA front office is first and foremost about winning with respect to cost. Then it is about bringing in fans and entertaining them. Think of it this way, the ratio of wins per dollar spent per win is much higher for players who have underpaid contracts. Players with underpaid contracts are a fact of life in the NBA, you just have to know how to find them. FInd them and you've got yourself a good ball club.

The culture in the NBA fanbase is first and foremost about winning. You play right, you win, then people start to care and eventually they will spend money. Especially if tickets are cheap.

Considering the wolves are playing better than they have in the last 4 years with a stable core of players for the next 2-3, it is good grounds for the local fan base to be excited. Tickets have been cheap at the start of the season. Rubio, Love and the rest of the team delivered and now the Wolves are the talk of the town. T-Wolves would have a lot more guys with different skin color if there were non-european leagues that cranked out NBA ready prospects readily. Hopefully that's going to happen soon because it will make things more interesting down the road.

It almost has to be coincidence. We've got to have the ugliest collection of whiteboys in the league, no one in their right mind would pay just to see this because they can "relate" to them. Is the population of the Cities really that white/caucasian heavy even? Rube is about the only good looking one of the bunch. Our trio of C's are so ugly they once made Chuck Norris flinch.

Only team to start 4 white guys. And for a good span of the 4th qtr against Utah, it was all five white guys: Love, Pek, Barea, Ridnour and Rubio.

well kahn wants to be like those early 2000's kings which were coincidently pretty white too - white chocolate, peja, vlade, scott pollard, hedo, jon barry....just kidding, just a coincidence i guess
