We may not reach the playoffs this year, which is disappointing given that just a few weeks ago it seems like we were on the warpath. But next year we should be able to hit the ground running with a full training camp, the return of bionic-rubio, and benefit of another year of being able to evaluate the personnel currently on the roster.

Let's say the goal is to come out of the West in the next 3 years. Who on the roster can help accomplish this. Not looking for FA signings, draft picks, etc. Just want to know which players everyone wants to keep.

That's about it for me. I could be talked into keeping Barea and maybe Webster or Johnson if he was on the bench. You gotta have some consistency between one iteration of the team and the next. I'd just as soon see everyone sold off to the highest bidder. What do you think?

Yeah, pretty much those five. I'm fine with keeping Webster as a backup 2/3 and Johnson or Beasley as a backup 3 as well. But I wouldn't be heartbroken if any of those three are gone either. We just really need to get a legit starter at the SG and SF positions. Most of the guys we have are backups.

Only untouchable for me is Rubio. I'd hate to see Pek traded, other than that it's open season.

I agree with the OP. We have three starters and 2 quality backups right now in Dwill and Luke. Barrea is a quality back up as well but I don't know if there is room on the bench for both Luke and JJ, given their size and salaries.

I think Dwill needs to become a three or be traded for a quality wing. He's our best, and really only, good trade asset if we decide to move him. I also think we desperately need a backup C/PF who can rebound, defend, and block some shots.

That sounds about right. Last year it was just Love, so at lease we've found 4 more guys worth keeping.

The good part is that other than Barea and Darko, every other player is easily movable or an expiring.

I used to be a "Love hater", but even I can see Love has emerged as a top 10 player in the league and a player worth building around this season. His offensive game is far better than I ever imagined it could be and he looks like he still has room for improvement. He might even win a scoring title some day with more improvement from Rubio.

The worth of D-Thrilla really depends on D's ability to lower that 11% body fat in hopes he can play the 3.

I like Beas as a super 6th and it seems he is comfortable with that.

I honestly think the majority of our starting line up is on the team already if not one piece away:
Rubio, Love, and Pek are in my mind without-a-doubt keepers.

Otherwise, I have developed a liking for every player on the roster rendering my sense of worth fuzzy but I certainly foresee a necessary consolidating of our assets.

I don't know about Beasley, I think he's trying the best that he can out there, but that only makes his mental lapses that much more evident. As someone who suffers from pretty severe ADHD I can tell you that it takes years of practice to develop the mental discipline to continuously apply the concentration necessary in order to perform complex tasks over a significant length of time. He still has time to get his head straight but he needs to work with someone who can train his mind.

I think D-Will would be awesome off the bench as a 4/3 getting 32 minutes a game, would absolutely dominate other benches...but agree that he should try to lose the baby-fat KLove style.

I would say Pek, Love, and Rubio is a given. Williams is a keeper if he shows that he can be the answer at the 3. Beasley and (maybe) Webster would probably be worth keeping around as backups depending on the price tag. Ridnour is worth keeping as a backup PG if nothing better shows up.

Everyone else varies from just not worth keeping (Barea, Tolliver, etc) to get rid of at all costs (Darko and Johnson).

My ideal rotation next year (assuming we don't get the Utah pick or any big name free agents) would be:

Pekovic/ Vet C (Dalembert maybe?) or maybe Randolph if Adelman will play him
Love / Williams
Williams/ Beasley (6th man)
Trade for SG/ Malcolm Lee
Rubio/ Ridnour

Malcolm Lee and Ridnour only play together with Lee guarding the PG. The SG would be one of Morrow (I could definitely see the Nets blowing it up), Redick, Crawford, Wes Matthews, or maybe even Ben Gordon (with extra incentive coming back).

You can add Crunch to your list.

Love, Pek and Rubio only for me. Ridnour puts up solid numbers, but he doesn't make the team better. Either we need more shot creating capable wings or else a more pure distributor. If Barea wasn't always going for the homerun play he'd be a nice backup, but as it is, it might as well be Nate Robinson.

Williams has shown some signs, but he's still a backup PF. I'd trade him for the right wing.

A lot of guys like Williams, Beasley, Randolph, its not that I don't think they couldn't be productive, but the team is committed to Adelman and he shows no inclination to playing them so I'd rather have somebody who might be able to improve the rotation.

Love, Pek and Rubio are the only keepers on the team.

Everyone else can be had.

D. Williams should be hard to get of us but if the price is right we move him no problems.

Ricky, Kevin, and Nikola are your keepers for sure. Derrick, Luke, and Martell are adequate reserves, although all three might have more value elsewhere than they do here. No reason to be attached to anyone else on this team right now.

Ah, it's true, I do hate that guy - but I don't think I'm going to convince anyone so I try not to be too annoying about it. Also, I'm not saying trade him for nothing, if they do trade him they should obviously wait for the right deal. But I don't think Williams is a SF, so one of those two should probably be traded. Or I'm totally wrong and Williams is going to develop as a SF, my track record on predicting players evolution isn't exactly stellar.

I'm going to take an unpopular stance here. I think Barea is someone we should keep.

He drove Dallas fans nuts for years, and was generally looked down upon by many around the league. Then he was a key player in their championship run. Not many players are as automatic a scoring boost off the bench as he is, and that is such an important thing in changing the tenor of a game, especially in the playoffs. And for real, we were a playoff team before Rubio's injury, and we will be next year if everybody important stays healthy. Barea is in his prime, quite affordable and is tested on the biggest stage in the game. That's not at all easy to replace. Therefore, we should keep him.

if its any consolation, I don't think we have any choice. We have to keep him.

i think darko will be easy to move for an expiring in the off season....he will be basically an expiring contract and could be highly useful to a contender as a spot match up specialist defender.

yeah it's basically ricky, pek, and klove for me....there's obviously others i like but none are especially critical to our success(dwill is but if he goes he'll surely bring back something valuable)

i'm still a massive believer in beas and to a lesser extent wes(somehow) and would like to keep them both.
