Stop-n-Pop Rumor

RUMINT has it that Team Adelman...

….would really, really, really like to see Williams plus whatever (not Pek) shipped to Houston for Budinger and Miller (later corrected: Martin, not Miller). Also overheard was the Team Adelman loves them some Pek while Kahn is obsessed with the long and athletic shot blocker bit and knows that Houston likes him, as well.

Kahn is also worried he’ll get burned on Williams’ upside if he’s traded. Something Team Adelman simply doesn’t buy into.

A package of Williams + Pekovic >>> Martin + Budinger. That also leaves the Wolves with a huge hole at C.

Look again. He said NOT Pek.

I stopped reading canis a long time ago. I'll just say that I know one of their more popular writers and he is completely unreliable.

Edit: he has as much credibility as any other season ticket holder. Which means his source is usually his ticket rep. Which means Kahn tells the reps to tell the season ticket holder something they want to hear.

Stop-n-Pop was also absolutely convinced that Adelman would never agree to coach here, so I'd take whatever he and his "sources" say with a huge grain of salt.

 that would be absolutely AWFUL value to deal williams for that...especially if martin is not extended at a cheaper price. it's just a rumour but this is the fear i had when rick came on board...i got the feeling he was gonna want to sell our future for a more modest today. i hope we at least give DW a chance to hopefully improve his play and thus his value. i'm all for dealing him but the player coming back has to be pretty fricken special imo(i may be over valueing :dontknow: ).

Depends what you mean by "special." Because you'd expect to have to deal someone special to get someone special, and a guy with a ceiling of David West is fine, but he's probably not bringing back a superstar.

And I agree with Mattya and AQuintus. For people with "inside info," SnP and the hoopus gang are wrong quite a bit.

Two things:

1. I'm not sure that I'd limit Williams' ceiling to David West at this point, or at least not until we see what he can do after dropping some weight.

2. I wouldn't expect back a "superstar," but I'm not sure that I'd call anyone outside of Lebron and Durant a superstar in the league currently. Either way, Williams should be able to at least get back a borderline allstar guy who isn't widely considered overpaid, which means someone better than Martin (or Iguodala for that matter).

well i mean in a package with williams in it i would expect a borderline all star...i understand that he is currently not gonna fetch that kind of player that's why i think it would be beyond stupid to trade him now - unless a team basically ignored that this season happened. give him half a season next year until the all star break and then deal him. i really can't imagine his value doing anything but going up in that time.

Unfortunately, I can easily see Williams' value dropping even further than it has already.

But look at our recent history since Kahn's arrival, and the guys we thought had a future...

Outside of Rubio, there is Jonny Flynn, Wes Johnson, and Derrick Williams. All three had okay rookie seasons. But looking a year later on Jonny and Wes, their value went in the toilet. No, its not a given that Derrick will see the same fate, but our roster is ready to compete now if we address a couple of needs. I don't think we can afford to wait for Derrick to maybe develop. This rumor would address two of our three main needs that we have, while not really sacrificing in any other spots. Hard to not consider it.

Adelman wants his ex player to play for him again? Big shocker. :o

Half of the sacramento kings came out of retirement to play for him When he was in Houston. Slight exaggeration but seriously at one point half the roster were made up of ex kings.

Guys like brad miller, bobby Jackson bonzi wells played big roles even when they were washed up as hell. Ron artest and Kevin Martin were ok but yea it was ridiculous...

As long as adelman remains hc, you will continue to hear names like Hayes, battier, Martin, budinger... Players who were among his favorites.

As long as they can still play, I wouldn't care if they were coached by Dennis Rodman. We need more guys who can play behind Rubio/Love/Pekovic/Ridnour. I'm sick of having to watch guys like Webster, Beasley, Randolph, Milicic, and Johnson.

thats very true....first of all i NEVER wanted williams but now we have him, it(along with the mention of flynn and wes) makes me sick to my **** stomach that we would have basically drafted a 29? year old, 10 digit salary earning, injury history kevin martin number 2 in the draft after making those other awful selections. KAAHHN!

I've always thought a Kevin Martin trade was a good possibility, but this rumor doesn't reinforce those beliefs in any way.

tading DWill for KMart would certainly signal the beginning of the end

A package of Williams + Pekovic >>> Martin + Budinger. That also leaves the Wolves with a huge hole at C.

how about they compromise and trade for Martin without wasting Williams or Pekovic. And I'm tired of hearing about Kahn's obsession with long and athletic. Every long athletic guy you've brought in is horrible, now stop it.

Rubio might be long for a pg, but most wouldn't consider him overly athletic.
