Lakers Nation: Wolves reportedly interested in Beasley S&T

Post#1 » by Gunny » Wed Jun 6, 2012 11:29 pm

http://www.lakersnation.com/lakers-rumors-t-wolves-interested-in-beasley-sign-and-trade/2012/06/06/

With the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly interested in making some moves during the off-season, there have been many names thrown around as people are trying to determine who they may or may not be interested.

One name that surfaced near the trade deadline last season was Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley, who the Lakers were reportedly close to acquiring. Now, more reports have come out that the team is once again interested in the former number two overall pick. And, it also seems that the feels are mutual.

According to sources close to the Timberwolves organization, Minnesota General Manager David Kahn told team owner Glen Taylor that the team was interested in pursuing a sign-and-trade with the Lakers in July.

One name that the team is reportedly interested in is Jordan Hill – the backup big man who played well for the Lakers in limited minutes since being acquired from the Houston Rockets in March.

Beasley could help the Lakers’ small forward position, where they had some issues last season. With Matt Barnes not expected to return and an uncertain future facing Metta World Peace, expect the Lakers to consider this option if Kahn and Minnesota indeed come calling.

I'd do a Hill for Beasley S&T in a hot minute. Nice backup 4/5. Leaves the rest of the resources for fixing the gaps at SG and SF.

Same here. Guy looked great in the playoffs, capable of playing good chunk of minutes if Love needs a long breather, and it would cut Tolliver's minutes.

Question is, do we want to keep Beasley if he's willing to take a discount (lets say....$5 mil per season) and come off the bench? I think he'll look to get paid and find a starting gig elsewhere but if nobody wants him or he wants to return, do you want him still?

I think the conclusion on Beas by the front office and coaching staff is that he'll be addition by subtraction. I don't think he comes back no matter what. Hill is pretty meh. He's an upgrade over Darko/Tolliver as a 4/5 but that's not saying much. He's average, but he's consistently average.

I like Randolph more than Hill, he's more talented and will cost less probably. But Hill is more reliable and better defender and more of a center than AR.

I'd be happy with Hill. He's alright for a backup.

Fine with Hill, but not really loving the idea either.

Would you rather let him walk without getting nothing?

At least we get a solid bigman off the bench. If they try to add Blake or any of that funny ish, I wouldn't do it.

I would love to swap Beasley for Jordan Hill. Really nice bench big, played well in the playoffs, has size and is mobile and can hit a mid range jumper if he is open.

give us hill and goudelock and i'd be very happy. i was really, really impressed with hill when i saw him playing with houston before he was traded. pretty sure hill is an unrestricted free agent so not sure this sign and trade would even be possible. i'd really like us to resign randy and i think they would be a very good back up 4/5 tandem. goudelock is a very good shooter who could be used situationally and for added depth behind rubes and jj who both obviously struggled with injuries this year.

Dual sign and trade, just can't include other players I think.

I could life with a Hill for Beasley trade as long as the Lakers throw in a future 1st round pick.

i would do that trade if i was gm and it was my job to make the wolves competitive and profitable, but as a fan I like beas as a person, (he's an idiot, but he's a gentle, nice idiot) I can't root for Jordan Hill, and Hill isn't anything I'd lose sleep over missing out on. I'd actually prefer just cutting ties with beasley from the fan perspective, haha. i'll take a dui over domestic abuse ten times out of ten but i'd prefer my favorite team's players clean and boring

yes, hill is an unrestricted free agent so we could just sign him outright. the only reason he would sign back on with the lakers into the sign and trade would be to get the home team raises. it would be interesting with beasley...would we have to wait for beas to sign an offer sheet with a team and then check that figure if it suits the lakers and then match and trade or just let him go if offer is higher than the lakers would want? seems like a long shot that hill won't get a better offer from the lakers, or if he doesn't be o.k with being traded to the t'wolves and beasley getting an offer that's higher than the lakers want to pay.

How much would Hill cost?>
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

Just an FYI from a Rockets fan, Adelman wasn't exactly Jordan Hill's biggest fan when he was here. Hill just isn't a good fit for his offense.

I think you guys (Adelman anyway) would rather get the Lakers 2013 1st or something along those lines.

Maybe. Ideally, I'd like to spend our cap space on wings before backup big men.

EDIT: It also looks like Jordan Hill is a free agent, so if we want him we can just sign him. No reason to help the Lakers.

Thanks, appreciate the insight from the Rockets perspective!

I was thinking that too. When Adelman coached the Rockets, didn't Hill rot on the bench, much like AR did this year?

He played 15.6 minutes a game in 72 games Adelman's last year in Houston. Seems like that would be fine for a bench big here.
