He's very intriguing. Probably the most unusual skill set I've ever seen. Ridiculous ball handling skills for a guy his size.
Of course, he's a PF, and short (but with great reach). He's a very big guy at 6'8", 260+, and is not really a jump shooter, so it's hard to see him as a SF. But he can drive to the basket and ohhh, can he pass. If we ran Kevin at center and White at PF, it would be terrifying and strange all at once. Really short, strong, and impossible to match up with. But I don't see it working. He would have to be outside at the 3 and his defense would be a huge liability there.
If we keep the pick and address the 2 and 3 with other players (trades or Shved and Bjelica) then he could be a fascinating backup 4 that would play well with Kevin when Adelman wanted to go small. Otherwise, I don't see it happening.

One thing that I think works in his favor is the presence of his coach Fred Hoiberg. There are questions about Royce the person, but I see Fred as a guy who's opinion Glen Taylor holds highly. Normally I think Taylor shies away from someone like White, but if Hoiberg gives a good enough review, I think we'd have to consider it.
Actually, as I keep typing this, I'm convincing myself more that he'd be a solid pick. Royce has the skillset Rick likes, he has the potential that Kahn would love, and I think Taylor would be okay with it if Hoiberg gives a positive review.

Royce White, not Thomas Robinson, was the better player in match ups. Of all the Big 12 prospects at the 3 and 4 the last few years, I enjoyed watching him the most since Beasley was still playing for K-State.
White was the leader in Scoring, Assists, Rebounds, Steals, Blocks (and Turnovers) for the Cyclones. This is a guy who had the highest usage rates on his team, which is not surprising because he was a bonafide beast.
The unique thing about White is that he can pass, rebound and score. His passing is already famous, but he can also play face up or post up. He can finish with either hand, although he likes to spin more to his strong side if he can help it. He has convincing up and unders with a good mini hook, plus he is absolutely fearless when it comes to banging down low. Those are the good parts.
There are however many issues. He needs to work on his free throws. The quality of his defense wavers haphazardly. He has good foot speed for his size and he can jump, but if he wants to play the 3, he will have to slim down. He sits at 270 right now. If he wants to play the 4 he's not doing it in Minny as a starter unless they move Love to the 5, which ideally would only be for spot minutes.
The wolves are loaded at the 3 and 4, with sufficient bodies for the 5 as well. Royce White might be talented, but he doesn't fill a need right away. If you draft him, the usual suspects will need to be moved.

I'm warming to the idea of taking him but we have to address the wings and backup C. I don't see any SF in him though. He looks pure PF to me. A unique skill set for a PF to be sure but still a four.

Beasley was a really good rebounder in college. You never know.

I've watched a lot of games with Royce, as I just graduated from Iowa State this spring. He's such a unique player and person, really. To me, his potential is basically a 6' 8" Rajon Rondo. He's in the build of Lebron James and falls just short of him in both athleticism and quickness (obviously not a bad thing).
Passing: 9.5/10
Ball Handling: 10/10
Defense: 6/10
Post Offense: 9/10
Mid-range shot: 5/10
Long-range shot: 1/10
I would rather not use the #18 pick on him to be honest. Sure, he wants to play here and has potential, but we need to look to add a wing or center in the draft if at all possible, first. If Derrick is going to be traded in a package for one of those type of players, and Beas is gone, then I'm all for it.

Fun fact: Beasley had 1 game with 4 assists at Kansas State. This year, White had at least 4 assists in 27 of 34 games this season, including 10 games with at least 7 assists.

He shot something pathetic like 24% from mid-range and 49.8% from the free throw line.
That is not a 5 mid-range game, and certainly not a 6 on D either.
I like White but he has pretty massive faults. I wouldn't take him until the mid 20s.

His ability to break down defenses and create for himself and others is too impressive for him not to be considered a top 10 talent.

Neither.
I'm intrigued by White's unique skillset, but using one of the biggest assets that we have this summer to bring in another ofensive minded PF instead of fixing one of the massive holes that we have in our lineup (like SG or SF) would be a big failure in my opinion.

how about we compromise and sign him after his rookie contract is up if he proves he's good and also that he won't freak out like a cat being forced into a bathtub everytime he has to board a plane
