Wes Johnson, the forgotten man

He's happy to be stealing money from the Wolves

What happens to him? Traded? Rotation player?

If he stays, what are your expectations of him?

Does he get a pass because he was a sophomore without summer league, training from the Wolves staff and without much training from Adelman like D-Will and M. Lee?

Just a reminder:

He shot 39.8% FG, grabbed 2.7 rpg and shot 70% FT. He only got to the line 0.5 times per game .. He played 22.6 minutes per game

He's also 25 years old.

Discuss.

I think that he just has so little value that there isn't much to say. What we would get trading him likely makes it not worth it. Maybe he has more value than we all think, but I just can't see any team offering anything of value for him. I see him getting backup wing minutes this year to hopefully improve or at least increase trade value.
I just don't see many other options other than letting him work on his game here until there is improvement.
I will say this though, I will be very upset if he is in the starting lineup next year. He was easily the most frustrating player to watch this last year IMO.

Not sure how much trade value he has left so unless he's a throw in to make salaries work I don't think he will be traded.

If he's here to stay I'd rather he played SF exclusively because he has no handles whatsoever. Make him run the break and in half court offense let him shoot the corner three or come off curls but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD don't let him put the ball on the floor.

Not sure who posted it (most likely Klomp, I assume) but I can recall reading that his FG% (from beyond the arc in particular) wasn't that bad after the All Star Break. So, if his role offensively was reduced to what I said earlier I would actually give him another shot. But by no means I'd advocate him staying here. If he stays, fine, make him earn 20 minutes per game as a SF but I wouldn't really mourn if he was traded.

I'd like them to trade him for a late 1st/early 2nd (if they even still can) and draft Barton/Fournier/Jeff Taylor/Crowder. However, what is most likely going to happen is that Kahn is too stubborn to admit he's awful and he stays on the roster and is as terrible as last year. Eventually he'll just be let go like a Rodney Carney.

What you just said reminded me of Paul George. Why can't Wes Johnson be our Paul George? They basically have the same game; athletic 3 pt shooters with limited ball handling ability and have good defensive potential.

March: 38.3% 3pt
April: 44.1% 3pt

Well hopefully he can shot more like he did later in the year then.

Otherwise Miller retires, buy-out Webster, buy-out Darko, amnesty Wes.

Wes has all the physical tools to succeed. I wonder what is going through his head.

I'm guessing he's on the team next year, hopefully as backup SF. I actually wouldn't hate him in that role. I don't have much faith in him, though, due to his lack of heart. Wes Johnson with a mean streak would be great. Smiley Wes sucks.

I feel like Kahn and company really like him and he will get a pass. He has a lot of leeway and unless a good deal comes long, he's staying. Pretty much the Anti-Beasley lol.

This. He had one game this year where it seemed like he came out mad. He had like 3 stls and 2 blocks in the first few minutes. That guy was good. He needs to find his motivation, which is no small task for him.

its been awful watching him sandusky the rims all day, but his defense has promise. Get a real sg next to him, and hope he can find confidence in his shot and consistency in his release.

Johnson's 3 point shooting improvement isn't as a fluke since he was a 35% 3 point shooter in his rookie season. He should be a more reliable spot up shooter in the future because the starting lineup has been settled, he's more familiar with the system, he'll have more time to work in the offseason, and he finally has a point guard who can create for him (as opposed to Flynn or some guy who walks with a limp). If we were to keep him (which I'm not opposed to doing), it would be nice to add a starting caliber backcourt player to pair along side him. When I say starting and caliber, I really mean a clear upgrade which isn't saying much. Given that this is Kahn's last year, I think he has some additional incentive to find players who will make an immediate impact.

I still like Wes, idk why. He shows good potential because of his ability to hit the three and his athleticism. I'd like him to become a solid defender who can hit the 3 at around 38-40% and become a valuable rotational wing.

Really that is all he has to do is hit 3s at a solid % and play good defense. I have no idea why he has no competitiveness, if he did he has all the potential in the world.

Kahn better not pick up his 4th year option.

Has very little value.

Keep him and hope he comes good with Adelman coaching him.

If he attacked the rim more than twice a season instead of airballing threes he would have some value, because he's a decent defender. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to happen. But Kahn seems to like him and Adelman started him in every game he played last season so he could be back frustrating us all again next season.
