How Likely is a Derrick Williams Trade?

The Budinger acquisition clearly signals a move among the T'wolves wing players (Beasley, Williams, Johnson, Ellington). How likely is it that Minnesota strikes a deal involving Derrick Williams?

Wolves don't really have Beasley anymore. We can extend a Qualifying Offer but probably won't.

Adelman sees Williams as a 4, where we are set, but we don't have great front court depth if we are letting Randolph walk and amnestying/buying-out Darko.

Others may feel differently but I certainly wouldn't call it a lock and I almost lean like I expect him to not get moved. I put it at 49% at best.

Personally I only want him involved in a deal for a high pick or a difference maker. No trades for 2-3 role players. We need a guy that will produce.

While I wish it were likely, it isn't. DW has very little value as of right now, definatly far below when he was drafted. He's going to have to play a lot better, and even then, he probably wouldn't be dealt till next offseason unless he simply tears it up out of the gate. I hate the idea of a year removed number two overall pick is slated to be a backup at the 4 and 3, but that's the reality. I wish Jordan was dumb enough to take DW as his "face" and we could just eat TT contract....but it's not happening.

Kahn said the two untouchable players were Rubio and Love (he also said Pek would definitely be here next season). The team would at least consider all trade scenarios.

There are so many different paths you can consider when trading Williams. The team could look for a young prospect who can grow with the team’s core and keep the teams cap room available, or the team could pursue an established veteran at a position of need in order to make a strong playoff push. There are still a lot of holes on the team, so we really can’t rule anybody out except perhaps Deron Williams.

TL;DR-Depends on what the team can get for Williams.

We need to be patient with him and let him develop. Love wasn't a world beater his first 2 years.

We would have depleted our depth if we choose not to bring back Beasley/Randolph - amnesty Milicic and if we trade Williams we have virtually no depth at PF. Its not a given he is traded.

75% back
25% gone

We're not going to trade him for pennies on the dollar. He still has a lot of upside, and even if he is a PF, we don't have much depth there.

I'm feeling strongly that the slimmed down/Adelman camped DW will be our starting SF while Budlinger will be his backup. Too me, yesterday's acquisition sparked the end of the Wes Johnson era. :D

I could live with and foresee:
Rubio/Luke
Vet. FA/Wayne/JJ
DW/Budlinger
Love/DW/Tolly
Pek/Vet. FA

I hope so, yet I hold on to the idea that Johnson could be a solid rotational player. Perhaps ship him or the Memphis pick to Cleveland for #33, #34 or Charlotte for #31. I think a slashing SG like Jared Cunningham would be solid off the bench with his propensity at getting to the free throw line. There should be some solid prospects slipping into the early second round perhaps we could buy a few picks to round out our roster.

I doubt that.

While Williams will play more SF than he did last year, I don't think that Johnson will be gone.

As the roster stands right now, I see us going small a lot with a Williams and Love front court. I think we will daft someone like Stutz or Sims to use when going small doesn't work against certain teams.

Rubio / Luke / Barea
SG TBD / Wayne / Malcolm
Budinger / Johnson / Williams
Love / Williams / Tolliver
Pekovic / Love / 58

I'd also add the possibility of Bjelica or Prestes on the roster, which would put us at 15.

It's just a hunch, but I don't think the Wolves are going to trade last season's #2 overall pick just because we picked up Chase Buddinger - as spectacular as he may be..

Actually he was. Love posted sick per48 numbers from day one.

I think Adelmans & Babcock team is running **** right now. At this point RA has a list of players he wants gone/replaced and I imagine Wes is on that list. Beas and AR are there for sure. Maybe D-Will too.

Depends If they want someone in this draft badly enough I guess. I'd rather keep him as a backup 4 with still a lot of potential.

Sources say Minnesota offered Derrick Williams to Charlotte in exchange for the #2 pick. Bobcats quickly rejected.

Derrick Williams has been shopped to different NBA teams dating back to the trade deadline. Asking price way too high according to teams.

It's too bad last year we didn't just trade down and pick up assests. I wanted to trade for Jonas or Kawhi or Burks. Now we're stuck with a guy we inevitably will have to trade. Though I think Derrick could really still be a really good player, he doesn't fit here, never will. And other teams know that we're desperate to get worth out of him.

IIRC, Kahn did the same thing last year with the #2 pick. Guess I can't blame the man for trying.

That 18th pick and Derrick Williams might have got top 5 consideration. But Derrick Williams for #2 straight up?

The Warriors rejected Derrick Williams for #7 too.

Well they do have Lee, but we're interested in him last year. That said, the source for GS is highly questionable.

It takes some balls to offer that, if true.

A year removed from his contract, sub-par performance last year, and a supposedly much better draft this year. Come on...
