So how do you guys like Adelman?

Hey Timberwolves fans. I'm a Knicks fan but you guys are one of the Western Conference teams I'm pulling for. I love what you did this offseason and could see you guys making that quantum leap this year into the playoffs.
I've always been a huge Rick Adelman fan; I was hoping the Knicks would fire D'Antoni last season and get Adelman but for some reason we stuck with D'antoni. How have you guys liked his offense so far? What about on the defensive end? Do you think Rubio and Love benefit or are limited by the system?

Well he's about a thousand times better than Rambis. Rambis' rotation was awful, I like that Adelman actually sits people like Wesley and Darko when they slack off. Adelman seems like a good motivator.

How about saying that his hiring is the second best move this team has ever done, right behind drafting KG.

I love that Adelman doesn't try to cram square pegs into round holes. He sees what's on the roster, and then builds a system around them. He brings credibility to the franchise and to the coaching staff that players can't really question. He holds players accountable and doesn't get into stupid tiffs.

I don't just like him. I love him. He is one of the main reason free agents are signing here.

It took Flip Saunders what, 5 years to win a playoff series? Flip's a great coach and I can't imagine some team isn't happy to hire him soon. But RA can do that this year, and then he'll officially have done the best job of coaching the Wolves ever.
Best thing about him: very sure of himself. Knows what he's trying to do and has no use for players who aren't helping him do it.

I like him alot. I think he can kind of get down on guys but you can't say he doesn't give players chances to prove themselves. Basically he gives you enough rope to hang yourself with. Not that he wants players to fail as the expression often implies but he give you a chance, puts you in a situation he feel you could be successful and your player determines what happens next.

I have a major issue with how little minutes hes given D-will so far. All of Tolliver's minutes should have gone to Derrick. Other than that though he's been okay

While Trolliver was playing horribly far too often he at least gave a damn and was hustling. D-Will, on the other hand, seemed to have lost focus from time to time. I like that he likes to hold his rookies/young players accountable. And when/if they earn it, they will be rewarded with playing time. See: Rubio, Ricardo.
What I don't really like is that he likes to play with two, if not sometimes three point guards on the floor. While it helps on the offensive side of the floor it's a recipe for disaster defensively. Now with Roy, AK 47 and Shved on board we finally have ball handlers on our roster who aren't undersized and/or playing out of position.
Other than that I have nothing to complain about when it comes to RA. He's my favorite Wolves coach ever.

I agree with just about everything everyone has posted and I too love him as a coach. He has helped make our team respectable again and that was no easy task. With that said, this is the one issue I have with him as well. I understand Adelman isn't going to hand anything to anyone, but I felt Williams could have been provided a more consistent role. It seemed like he would play 25 minutes one game and 10 minutes the next. No rookie is going to develop any confidence or rhythm like that and I'm worried that he is so focused on the short-term, that he's writing DW off way too early.

You guys are making it even harder to get over not having him. Parallel to the Knick's talent problem (to put having a $100 million 25 win team nicely) has been our inability to get a coach who can coach in New York. Since 2004 we've had like 6 coaches. However, as a big Rick Adelman fan I don't know if I'd wish New York on him; it seems like New York is where coach's reputations come to die.
Here's a video of the Princeton offense Adelman ran in Houston which is pretty similar to the one he ran as King's coach:

Has he been doing similar things with the Wolves? It seems like your fo is putting together a roster that has the pieces to play his kind of system but did he play that way last year? I imagine having knuckleheads like Johnson and Beasley getting considerable burn made a read and react system pretty tough.

The team's "buy a championship" mentality is a coach-killer IMO.

I don't count that as a flaw for Adelman. Was he supposed to play Wes more? But yeah, if he does that again this year with a healthy Roy, AK47 and Shved on the bench, the maybe it can be counted in the flaw column.

Fair enough on the Wes part. It's just that sometimes Luke or JJ were being killed by their opponents due to a massive size difference. I wished Adelman would have played Webster or Wes more in those specific match ups. Not that it would really change a lot since it would lead to a worse offensive production but I'd rather have better defensive match ups.
