Pretty good opening day games, although I'm still not sure how Cleveland and Washington snuck their way in there. Varejao's stat line stuck out to me, I can't remember the last time I saw anything like it.

Harden signs for the 5-year max. That seems pretty dumb.

I get Harden being a max-money player, but I wouldn't want to be locking him up with it while still looking to add significant talent. Do the Rockets think they're set for the future with Harden/Lin/Asik taking up $30 million on the cap next year?

In hindsight, now it seems like a lot to give up for the right to pay Harden a 5 year max. I'f i'm Houston I don't do any of those signings -- Asik, Lin, or Harden -- and I just tank the year while developing all the young guys.

I agree, in the long run. This year, the trade helps the West because OKC won't be as formidable right away. But long term, the Martin salary helps them, Lamb will step into the Harden role in a couple years, and those picks just help them reload.

BTW if they let Martin expire and amnesty Perkins as expected, they will be under the cap.

Just for fun, I'm looking at the age of the OKC roster

Collison - 32
Martin - 29
Sefolosha - 28
Perkins - 27
Thabeet - 25
Maynor - 25
Liggins - 24
Durant - 24
Westbrook - 23
Ibaka - 23
Jackson - 22
Orton - 22
Jones III - 21
Lamb - 20

$40+ M/4 for Derozan seems like a bad overpay. Yikes.

The original plan was to acquire Steve Nash. Once Nash headed to LA, Colangelo had all this Steve Nash money lying around. Apparently he offered every penny and more to DeRozan.

Should have waited till next year. Theoretically it's possible he'd improve his value so much he'd be worth more, but it's far more likely that they just overpaid.

Harden looking really good as "the guy" in his Rockets debut.

Too bad we couldn't land Varajao and move Pek + assets for Harden. Love + Rubio + Harden is quite the combo but we'd find ourselves in the same situation as the Thunder once Rubio is due for a new contract.

Funny how the ESPN guys are saying Toronto made a good move with that extension.

Harden's statline surprised me, but maybe I shouldn't be surprised since he's "the guy." Who else is there to take shots in Houston?!

Man, it would sure suck to have to pay to keep a contender made up of all young guys together.

Beasley benched in first game of the season. Wesley Johnson doesn't even see the floor.
