Pekovic May Start Demanding the Ball

Nikola Pekovic is a man of few words, which doesn’t make him any less terrifying. This season, he’s preparing to be much more vocal, and start demanding the ball. Per the Pioneer Press: “You don’t want him to get mad at you,’ Wolves guard J.J. Barea said. ‘Every time you see him in the paint and he’s open, you have to get it to him.’ The Wolves have told the soft-spoken Pekovic to be more vocal on the floor this season in demanding the ball. As the team’s most physically imposing player, Pekovic is taking on a more assertive role in the middle, especially with power forward Kevin Love out until at least mid-December because of a broken right hand. Love’s absence puts most of the Wolves’ inside load squarely on Pekovic’s muscular shoulders. ‘The guys are smart enough to see me if I’m in good position,’ Pekovic said. ‘They will pass me the ball, but sometimes if they don’t see me and I’m open, I might yell or something.’ [...] Pekovic speaks English well enough to get his point across, but the third-year NBA player understands that he will have to do more than just raise his arm when he’s open in the lane. ‘I know they’re expecting a little more from me with Kevin out,’ Pekovic said. ‘Everybody is pushing to do more. I will try to do my best. Every day I am working on new things and trying new moves.’”

Good. Grind the other team's frontcourt down and get them in foul trouble.

In other Pek related news, why haven't we offered this guy an extension? We should at least float an offer of $11-12M per year (Ibaka, Lawson $ seems fair for both sides).

He's not eligible for an extension. He'll be restricted this summer, but they can't get anything done until then.

This summer Portland will want payback from batum's offer... And the ground will tremble with Kahn anger!

Oh yeah, the four year rule. It's a dumb rule.

We should've given him a four year deal right from the start.
The guy was dominating over in Europe. His first season in the nba was rather depressing. Never lost faith his pure strength would someday translate to being at least a guy that destroys opponents second units, though.
Adelman didn't seem to be a big fan of his at the start but I guess Pekovic has simply muscled his way into Adelmans system.

Pekovic needs to learn how to pass the ball back.

Pek does not demand ball. Ball come to Pek or Ball die.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cousins was a better player this season.
Not to mention that the NBA got rid of the Center slot at the ballot. The chance of Pek making the ASG is slim.

Both of these are true.

Based on some of the names who have made the All-Star team over the years (and more importantly, who has been snubbed in their place), I think we can all agree that it's not a huge deal if Pekovic didn't make the All-Star game.

Exactly. I don't care if he doesn't get the public recognition he should get as long as he plays like he can be an All Star. His game doesn't really appeal to the general fan base anyway.

If he can learn how to do this when the double teams come and improve his defense he could end up being an all star.

Also an improved outside game

what are your guys chances of resigning him this offseason? He'll probably be looking at an Al Horford type deal around 12.5 mill per year. If a team comes in with a Omar Asik poison pill contract with you future tied up to Rubio and Love what are the odds of letting him go or doing a sign an trade?

I think the poison pill can only happen for two-year players.
Regardless, I think we will do everything we can to keep him here.

I don't see him leaving. Kahn made it sound like he was a priority in a recent interview. No way they let an impact player go at the hardest position to fill.
