Three teams going in different directions, with parts that don't fit.
(after dec 15th, when free agents can be traded)
MIN GIVES: Brandon Roy
MIN GETS: Courtney Lee + Fab Melo
BOS GIVES: Courtney Lee + Fab Melo + Jared Sullinger + BOS 1st
BOS GETS: Varejao
CLE GIVES: Anderson Varejao
CLE GETS: Brandon Roy (exp) + Jared Sullinger + BOS 1st + $7.7 mil 2013 cap space
MIN: Lee has been awful this season, but maybe reuniting with Adelman could help. He knows Adelman's system, so there is no learning curve - he helps right away. His contract is a gamble - 4 years at about $5.3 mil, but it may be time for MIN to make some gambles. A prospect center in Fab Melo provides incentive for us to take the risk.
BOS: They are still win-now, and they get the vet big man that they need. Varejao's defense fits with the Celtics. He's fairly inexpensive for what he brings, which BOS needs to consider.
CLE: They are playing for next year. This deal puts their whole payroll at just under $20 mil next season, so they can offer to add two max deal free agents. CLE needs something to bring back stars, and that leverage may be bringing in a second star. They also get the local Sullinger for incentive, to develop with Vareajo's minutes and spin some turnstyles.

Varejao has been one of the best big men in the league this season. His value is higher than an expiring and a guy who dropped in the draft due to health concerns.

I think Fab Melo has to go to Cleveland to give them more value and maybe even more. If we can turn Roy into healthy SG like Lee than we did great.

Re: MIN - BOS - CLE
I hear you. I'll edit by throwing in a BOS first. I don't think BOS will go higher than three 1sts -- if you consider Fab Melo and Sullinger (#21 and #22) firsts though. Varejao has a long history of picking up injuries.
MIN should get something back though. As poorly as Lee has been playing, it's a huge risk to pick up a 4-year, $21.35 mil contract for an expiring.
