Variations on IND-MIN-???

Post#1 » by shrink » Sat Dec 15, 2012 1:46 pm

DJ Augustin has been awful for IND, and they want to get back to the play-offs. They are 12-11, but only 3.5 games out of the 2nd spot in the East, and some of these losses have come down to just horrible back-up guard play. On the Trade Board, Pacers posters seem fine with an expiring + a Top 20 pick for either Ridnour or Barea, which seems like a fair price for a player that we won't be using as much with Rubio back. However, we don't need a top 20 protected pick, so it'd be best to spin it.

A. What rebuilding team would give us a back-up for the pick? My guess is our biggest back-up need is at center, but I'm open to other ideas.

B. We could also package the pick with Derrick Williams, and send it to a rebuilding team for a starter-level player. With Malcolm Lee gone now, I'm still thinking Afflalo, and using Shved as a super-sixth man:

MIN GIVES: Williams + Ridnour
MIN GETS: Afflalo

IND GIVES: Augustin + Top 20 prot 1st
IND GETS: Ridnour

ORL GIVES: Afflalo
ORL GETS: Williams + Augustin (exp) + Top 20 prot 1st

Anyway, three questions here:

1. Is a Top 20 pick fair for Ridnour or Barea? Which would you chose?
2. Can you name a back-up player that would help us for an expiring and the Top 20 protected pick?
3. What player would you target with Williams + Top 20 prot 1st?

The idea is lovely. I'd like Afflalo on our team, he's coachable, very smart.

I'd say maybe for Ridnour....depending on the draft strength. But you look at Budinger fetching #18 in last years draft...I'd say Budinger is a good amount better then Luke(though he had more contract questions with only a 1 year deal).

Could #20+expiring get someone like Jared Dudley? Courtney Lee? Dorrell Wright?(bad year, but he's expiring...pry wouldn't need a pick to add)... just throwing some names out there..I wouldn't mind looking at Anthony Morrow since he's not playing much in Atlanta...we need a great shooter off the bench. Even someone like Mike Dunleavy would be a pretty nice fit, especially in Adelman's system.

I'd say Afflalo would be the #1 choice, maybe someone like Monta Ellis.

I was under the impression ORL values AA a lot more.
- He's leading in PPG (albeit not by much) and was the cornerstone of the D12 trade. I know that is only sentimental value, but I vividly remember people being upset for giving up Big Al for only two picks, which sort of gave the impression we had gotten nothing out of trading KG, since Al was the cornerstone of this deal.
- Magic are sold on Nicholson as their PF of the future
- Pick is hardly worth much
- Expiring is most valuable when you want to be a free agent player, not when rebuilding

As much as I would like this trade, I am very sceptical you'll find anyone from ORL in favour of this.
