Today Rubio was asked if Gasol was being treated fairly.

“I don’t’ think so,” Rubio said. “He proved in the league that he is one of the best. He can pass, he can shoot, he can rebound. He can do a lot of things. I think if you use him in the right way, he is a top player in this league. If they don’t want him, we are more than welcome to get him.”

At this Rubio laughed. But it’s no secret that Gasol’s name has been linked to trade rumors all season.

“He’s been with the Lakers (five-plus) seasons,” Rubio said. “And he’s been a starter since day one. This year – it seems like It’s been the last two years – it seems they don’t want him. But actually they need him, because he’s a great player. He can do a lot of things. He’s had issues with his knees, and it’s been a lot of years without resting for him. But he’s a veteran, he knows how to play. He’s a great player.”

Rubio said he’s in regular contact with Gasol, as he is with other Spanish players playing in the NBA. “It’s hard when you’re hearing things, rumors that you’re going to be traded,” Rubio said. “But he’s a professional. He’s been playing a long time, and he’s going to keep doing what he’s been doing.”

Pau would be a great fit. But the problem is what would we do with pek? we would have to move him forsure. And pau is already 32 if im not mistaken, would we rick giving him a long contract?

Pek would be gone. It means we weren't willing to pay him

Trade Love for Gasol and the Lakers' next two first rounders. Keep Pek. Not only would Gasol be a good fit with Rubio but also with AK and Schved.

Do you honestly think that is a good trade? I mean, honestly? Love for a 32 year old on the decline, and some picks that sure as **** aren't going to be lottery?

I mean, I know the opinion on Love has gotten pretty low recently, but that is just excessive.

I wouldnt trade anything worth less than the level he played in the 11-12 season and olympics (he was the 5th best player on that team.) because that is the level of play some teams with trade for.

Do you(wolves fans) honestly want a player that turns 33 in the summer instead of resigning Pek who just turned 27 ? Pau is not going to be the player he was and he is showing that this season, while Pek is going to be even better... This would be a horrible move, this team needs a guard not a PF/C...

Correct - which is inconceivable that we wouldn't pay Pek $13 at the most, but would be willing to pay Gasol $20 million?!?

Most of us don't want anything to do with him. If his contract was half the cost, then sure.

The only way I see Pau trade happening would be something like: DWill, Barea, Roy's expiring, and Steamer for Gasol. Works on the trade machine, but I doubt Lakers would do it.

I dont think the Lakers pass on that type of scenario because they get alot of flexibility ... other deals will likely send Lakers another big contract they don't necessarily want. They do need to believe they can move/package the pieces for what they may really want.

I dont think it will happe but would not be suprised either

If the Wolves are willing to take on Gasol, it means they are willing to pay him $20 mil. If that is true, they must be willing to pay Pek up to $13 .. if it's a choice between the two, you'd obviously keep Pek and the extra $7 mil.

OK, so next year, Pau + Pek + Love + Kirilenko = $60 mil.

The lux may rise a bit, but it's only $70 mil now.

Is there any way we could realistically expect Glen Taylor to go so far over the lux with Gasol that he could put together a balanced team with $60 mil locked up in four players (and one coming off the bench!)?

Maybe if we would throw in a pick it would make them more interested.

It's not like it's an easy yes for them, but it sure must be hard for them to get a better deal for Gasol... Our advantage on the market is that we actually have DWill as a guy who is a great young prospect and would be in the rotation of almost any team but ours(When Love and DC are healthy), and we have JJ who would work great for Lakers, because they need a guy who can be very productive from the bench offensively which they lack.

Well, if we go for Gasol that means we are chasing playoffs this season and going championship mode in the next season and Taylor is going over the lux. We hope for a good back-up SG in the draft, we hope that Rubio and Love will be playing like last season, we hope that we remain healthy, we hope that Shved plays like he played in the beginning of the season, and we hope that Bud is shooting 3PT at a decent %. Man, that would be nice.

I ran some numbers if we traded Williams + Barea + Roy for Pau Gasol:

Rubio ($3.7), Ridnour ($4.3) vet min PG ($0.85)
Shved ($3.3), Gelabale ($2.1), M. Lee (0.9)
Kirilenko ($10.2), Buddinger ($3.5?) Pick ($1.1)
Love ($14.7), Cunningham ($2.2), Bjelica? ($3.0)
Pekovic ($13.0), Gasol ($20.0), vet min C ($0.85)

Total: $83.7 mil

I split the $5.15 mil MLE between Gelebale and Bjelica. Even if we don't spend it on these two, we will still spend it (add talent while giving up nothing but money). We have two 2nds this summer (OKC and BRK), but I assume that a win-now Adelman will not use them - perhaps trade for future 2nds. There are certainly other moves that a trade-oriented Kahn could make.

The lux right now is at $70.307 - but it might go up. For simplicity, let's say it goes to 73.7 mil, and Taylor is $10 mil over the lux. That will cost:

$83.7 mil in salary
$7.5 mil in lux taxes for the first $5 mil he's over
$8.75 mil in lux taxes for the second $5 mil he's over
$2 mil in the lost share of lux revenues
$102 million dollars

This year he's paying $66.5 mil.

I believe Taylor is willing to go a little over the lux in 2013 as he wants to raise the value of the franchise before he sells off part of his ownership. However, I don't think it's reasonable to expect him to increase his payroll by over 50% in one year.

The Bottom line is what almost all of us already believe: Pau Gasol is too expensive for the Wolves.
