Ownership News Coming "Soon"

Minnesota Timberwolves ownership news is coming. Soon.

In a brief phone conversation on Tuesday evening, Wolves owner Glen Taylor said he'll have a major announcement on the ownership front sometime in the next week.

When poked and prodded, the only other information he would volunteer was that it's a scenario that would never be guessed.

Taylor has had talks with Chris Hansen's Seattle group, but they want to move the Wolves to Seattle, and Taylor said that's not happening.

As for the future of coach Rick Adelman, Taylor said he doesn't yet what Adelman will do, but it "looks very favorable" for some sort of return. Taylor added that Adelman has kept him well-informed.

President of basketball operations David Kahn is scouting in Europe, according to Taylor. Asked if it was OK to make a leap on Kahn's future based on him continuing to work, Taylor said no.

When pressed if the NBA.com report about Flip Saunders taking over Kahn's duties was accurate, all Taylor would say is that no decision has been made yet. But in the same breath, Taylor said a decision would come by the end of the month.

That would be today.

Asked whether former Bulls and Lakers coach Phil Jackson was a part of any equation, Taylor said no comment.

If Phil is GM and RA retires, we're guaranteed to get Brian Shaw.

Welp, we are about to be a historic franchise any way you slice it.

3 headed coach/GM monster. Flip, RA and Phil take turns coaching, they each get to coach 20ish games and form a brain trust, a marvel such that we haven't seen since bread started coming pre-sliced.

Just saying. Maybe down the road if RA calls it quits finally and Shaw still needs a gig, you know Phil is keeping tabs on him.

Can't have enough backups for when one tears his ACL.

You know who else Phil keeps tabs on that's probably open to a new gig?

Im down with Phil in our front office.

He had Jordan and Kobe, two of the best shooting guards in nba history.
And i'm sure he wants better than Ridnour. (Mclemore!)

Phil coaches home games ,RA coaches away games so Phil doesn't have to travel.

Why does Taylor have talks with the Hansen group if they don't want the franchise to move???

Seems like pointless to even start a discussion then. :D

I'm sure he's just doing his due diligence. If you are selling a franchise for, say $300M with a stipulation that the franchise stays here and someone offers you $400 M but wants to move it, as a businessman you should at least consider it.

*I made up those numbers

Like I wrote on PBT..

As a Timberwolves fan, I sure we don’t become the next in line. Our owner is looking to sell, but only to a buyer committed to keeping the team in Minnesota. Still, many Wolves fans are worried that it could still happen.

For Seattle, the Timberwolves might be one of the best possible outcomes. The roster and coaching staff has tons of ties to both Washington and the Pacific Northwest (Love, Adelman, Porter, Sikma, Ridnour). Plus, it has young marketable star power in Love and Rubio.

It makes logical sense, but I hope and pray that it doesn’t happen!

He didn't approach them, they approached him. He listened to their offer, but it included moving the team to Seattle so he immediately said no.

You guys are making something out of nothing here on the Seattle group front.

I listened to the Doogie phone report yesterday and his tone sounded much different than that report seems to read. It was really a non-story besides Taylor teasing him with news next week, Adelman situation looking "favorable" and Taylor confirming that the Wolves sale will not include them moving, no matter what.

No updates on Kahn or Flip really, but it was mentioned that Kahn is currently scouting in Europe which would seem kind of weird to pay for him to fly to Europe to scout if he were about to be replaced by Flip.

I think if they get Adelman to stay another year, Kahn may get another year to get this team to the playoffs.

they'll keep Kahn's legal mind around to draw up contracts with the sickest legal language in the biz

you know how people freak out when somebody makes a defender fall down with a crossover in a streetball game? Thats what attorneys do when Kahn puts the word "estoppel" in his contracts.

Agreed but as someone posted already I'm sure he'd sell to move for the right price. It is a business.
