Can we spend some money on Omri Casspi?

Post#1 » by wolves_89 » Thu Mar 16, 2017 8:52 pm

The Wolves are sitting on $12-13M in cap space and are now desparate for another rotation player. I propose significantly overpaying Casspi for the rest of the season to get him to sign in Minnesota.

With Bjelly and Lance being out, I'd look into it, not sure I need to make a crazy deal though.

Even if the Wolves offer him a deal for the remainder of their cap that only amounts to around $2M for the rest of the season. As long the contract doesn't have guaranteed money for next year there isn't much that could go wrong.

In general I'd agree it would be a meh move. My biggest concern is keeping down Towns and Wiggins minutes for the rest of the season, especially since the playoff hope is almost gone. Casspi can play both SF and PF and could soak up quite a few minutes while providing some average bench production (instead of below average minutes from Payne or even worse big minutes for Towns).

I hate Casspi so much, he used to burn me constantly in NBA 2k and he has a stupid face. For those reasons alone, no thanks.

on serious note, Casspi should sign with a playoff team if he can.

I actually don't think signing Casspi would cost us anything since we're below the salary floor. Any money we spend on him is money we have to spend anyway.

I'll take Casspi for the 3 point shooting and he's a smart player that will move the ball around. A playoff team will scoop him up if he's healthy, though

Not a big fan of his but if not signing him means giving even more minutes to the starters and/or Payne, I'd rather we signed Casspi. And since we're apparently below the salary floor anyway, there's absolutely no harm in doing it.

Sweet. I like the signing, we could use him, maybe he can get a role for next season. We badly need shooting.

Can Cassipi stay on the team going forward? I like him as a role player being a small forward that can play next to Wiggins or being a small ball 4 that can space the floor.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Is he a better option than Muhammad or Bjelica?

I'd rather have him than Bjelica and he'd be significantly cheaper than Bazz, but I'd much rather have Bazz. I mean it won't take much to keep him next year, maybe at the very most $5mil. I don't mind keeping him and Bazz, I've never been a big Bjelica fan though.

Muhammad might not be here depending on his contract and how much Thibs likes him, he wants to stay but that's only part of the quation. Bjelica has only recently shown he can be a piece that's counted on. I'd like to have the rest of the season to take a hard look at Casspi and factor him for next season. Team needs depth regardless and shooters.
