We needed a starting quality (meaning started last year), PF who is a strong defender next to Towns. On defense Dieng is too slow to be a PF and too weak to be a Center. Name a PF who checks those boxes at a minimum and would have come cheaper than 14m per year for 2 years?

Taj may not be 2x the player patterson is, but considering the Thibs connection and Taj's ability to teach our bigs the system, that carries some significant value.

You can also go the other way, is Milsap over 2x the palyer Taj is (33M per year). He is older, not much of a shooter (30% from 3), and obviously on the decline.

Sorry to pipe in as a non wolves fan.

Its pretty obvious what Thibs' plan is. Make the playoffs, see how the young wolves respond and get them experience. Then in two years, figure out who is worth keeping and who isn't. When GS starts to decline, be in a position to contend.

IMHO, Thibs had to pay a premium for Taj to get him to sign a 2 year deal in order to fit into the long term plan. I really don't think Thibs' plan is to put the absolute best team on the floor this season at the expense of the future. If anything, it seems that he is trying to set the team up for later while trying to make the playoffs now.

Then u don't know Thibs very well. If he wanted to just make the playoffs then he would've kept lavine and then solidified our bench. Our starting unit was actually pretty solid last year but our bench was atrocious. Thibs is super competitive and he's thinking about right now but yes I agree he has the future in mind as well signing these players to 2 yr deals which is nice to see
RIP Flip, you will be missed. You created the journey and now you get to sit back and watch it unfold from Heaven. Thanks for everything, you are a staple of what every person should strive to be.

You would be wrong, about Coldfish and Thibs. Super competitive Thibs just sat back a whole year to find out more about his young players(something others thought he couldn't do) and really made no hasty moves even though he could have. Thibs plans everything out and then works on his plans during the season(hence no jerking around players in the rotation, he's put the rotation together that way for a reason). Had Minnesota kept Wiggins and LaVine as it's starting wings they wouldn't have made the playoffs any time soon, their defense is that bad at this point in their career. People just get too caught up on offensive stats and forget about the other side of the game.

I'm still in awe someone said Coldfish doesn't know Thibs very well, most of us that have been on the Bulls message board for over a decade kinda have a feel for coach Thibs.

Coldfish probably knows Thibs better than any of us, as the retired bulls moderator, and one of the most realistic voices in the Bulls forum for years.

Ok, here's the plan. We renege on our offer because we can't have suspended drivers around our impressionable young kids then use our cap space to sign KCP.

Just think about how clearly superior for the roster that would be.

One of the best FA sign of this franchise ever. He deserves each buck that he earns. Glue-guy and that 3-point corner shoot is very useful.

It's impossible not to love him, he does so many good things on the court, he's a real veteran presence, great all around defender, smart and seems like a very likable person.

Spoiler:
MAX HIM ASAP!!!

Apparently though, being a positive player is now a bad thing according to Wolves fans, since many here still think it was a mistake to sign him.....

Taj Gibson is a guy, and he has been for most of his career, a guy that has impact that goes beyond his box score. He's just a smart basketball player who plays on both sides of the ball.

Just a shame that he isn't as impactful as Dieng was the last 2 seasons

What are you basing that on?

Last year Taj and Dieng were practically identical in RAPM and he wasn't nearly as efficient offensively, last year. He has the best on/off and +/- on the team.

Gorgui on/off last year: +3.9

Gibson's on/off this year: +23.8

Gorgui +/- per game: .4

Gibson's +/- per game: 4.3

This is not some anomaly for Gibson either, he's been near the top of the league in RAPM in multiple different seasons in the past.
