We need shooting. Who do we get?

What about Vince Carter? Nick Young, Ian Clark?

It would be nice to get a combo guard who can shoot. Who fits there for cheap?

Nick Young, CJ Miles, Clark, Afflalo, Dunleavy, Gerald Green, Foye.
Ilyasova, Tolliver, Patrick Patterson, Olynyk, Speights, Muscala.

Afflalo and Miles would be great. Afflalo has dropped in his defense level, but he's still a good shooter and would be a solid get for us. Miles might be out of our price range, but he'd be a great 2/3/4 combo off the bench that always seemed to kill us.

I would like Afflalo and Dunleavy as shooters. It would be worth bringing back Rush and playing him the 10 minutes a game he should play. Muscala would be solid get if we could unload Aldrich.

For a combo guard, why not bring back The Jimmer! He could score in China so he must still have it. Doesn't he sound like a perfect fit with Thibs style?

Miles would be my top target if we can dump Aldrich's salary. I guess Afflalo would be my second choice. Then re-sign Casspi as the fourth wing. Dunleavy is just too old. He's only played 700-800 minutes each the last two seasons. We need more than that as the third guy and Casspi brings more to the table as the fourth guy.

The Wolves are in a bit of a pickle.

They only have the $4.328 Million Room MLE and veteran minimum's to offer.

Almost anyone worth a damn wants more than minimum. This year is very weak in terms of shooters. And there are no bargains left at guard or small forward.

With a depth chart of:

C: Karl Towns, Cole Aldrich, Justin Patton (something tells me Patton will move ahead of Aldrich)
PF: Gorgui Dieng, Taj Gibson
SF: Jimmy Butler, Nemanja Bjelica ?
SG: Andrew Wiggins (Butler can back up Wiggins at SG, if necessary, if they have someone they like at SF, possibly Bjelica)
PG: Jeff Teague, Tyus Jones

They obviously need another vet minimum PG and preferably two wing shooters. There are not any to be had. Here's what's left that might be had for the Room Exception of $4.328 million or the vet minimum (I don't bother listing anyone who would get more than that because the Wolves are out of cap space).

Shooting Guard's Left for Room Exception or Less (that also are not bums)
Tony Allen (Tony will be 36 in January, value is defensive, not shooting. Would he take vet minimum?
Thabo Sefalosha (Will probably require room MLE, except after his leg injury, he's not the same). Value mainly defensive.
Ian Clark (would require room MLE, if not more). Excellent spot up shooter. Doesn't offer much else.
Vince Carter (40 years old, wants multi-year contract, talking to Sacramento). Sounds like he wants more the Room MLE.
Gerald Henderson - probably wants more than room MLE
Brandon Rush - Wolves give up rights when they renounce him to sign Teague and Gibson. Probably wants more than minimum.
James Young - I think he already accepted a camp invite to New Orleans. But a guaranteed minimum contract would trump a camp invite.
Maybe they just settle for a G-League callup.

Small Forwards Left for Room Exception or Less
Omri Casspi (more like a stretch PF but he's the best the Wolves could get for minimum)
Mike Dunleavy ?? (don't think his personality is what the team needs)

Point Guards Left for Room Exception or Less
Probably better off with an undrafted player for minimum or a G-League callup than taking something broken down, or with baggage. Guys like Ramon Sessions and Brandon Jennings will probably cost at least the room MLE. Maybe not. We'll see what the market is.

I'm assuming he's too expensive, but, sure if we could sign him.

If we could dump Aldrich, maybe he's in range. I'm not sure how much he expects.

I'm guessing we'll get one of the better guys left on the market once we figure out a way to dump Aldrich. I would think if money is somewhat competitive, it's hard to pass up a 25 minute per game role on a 50 win team.

Also, big domino that's still to fall is Hayward. If he goes to Boston, then they'll have a surplus of wings. If he goes to Miami, then they will too.

I wouldn't dump Aldrich. I get the appeal but I'd rather Aldrich and a first than CJ Miles.

They wouldn't say that until they did it. There was a tweet about it though.

Agreed. Aldrich is on a reasonable contract. It doesn't make sense for us to add a 1st just to dump his contract.

You're going to pay 7 mil this year for a player at the end of the bench that Thibs doesn't trust? Waste of space

Great post but i think it's extremely optimistic to expect Bjelica to be able to play the 3 full time. Can you imagine him trying to guard Jimmy Butler or Andrew Wiggins? He'd get eaten for lunch. And it's not like he could make small guys pay by posting them up as he seems to have zero post game.

I don't really understand. A rotation wing is clearly more important than a non-rotation big. I think if we want a competitive team this year we need to fill in the holes.

Then trade him somewhere that can use him. We shouldn't have to attach a 1st to dump a contract that is a reasonable contract to begin with.

Nobody is going to take him without a sweetener.
