Huge win. The Western Conference is so tight right now 3-10 that anything can happen. Hell we can fall out of the playoffs completely. Need to start playing much better defense out of the break. Doesn't help we have the Rockets on the road to start.

I'm watching the replay and David Aldridge mentioned that not only can we offer KAT the max this summer, we can also offer Jimmy a new contract extension and the max is worth 190M

Do we extend both guys this summer?

Absolutely. I just hope Glen Taylor coughs up the money.

I was going to say wait but I don't think we have capspace either way so you might as well sign them.

In a funk, not really, this is Wiggins minus a lot of shot attempts.

I think we offer them both max extensions.

Towns is the future, and any team locks him up. We can offer the contract a year before other teams, and even if he wanted out (there are no indications of this), he'd have to play an additional year for the qualifying offer. Rookie stars can either sign a new deal, or gamble they don't get hirt for two years, so nearly all of them choose to sign that first, life-changing contract and extend.

JImmy is probably a more important extension. Unlike Towns, Jimmy has a lot more money in the bank, so an injury doesn't hurt his future. Also, because he was traded, we can't offer him the Designated Player contract, which is a max deal starting at 5% of the cap higher than other teams. Our contract can have slightly higher raises, and can be a year longer, but those are not significant differences for true stars, who always feel they can get another contract after the next one. Destination teams like the Lakers are already mentioning that they might try to target 2019 Free Agency which has better stars, and Jimmy Butler is included in that list.

The downside for any team offering a max extension, a year early, is that they now carry that injury risk. However, the downside of losing Jimmy is too great to not make him the offer. If he declines, MIN needs to listen to offers. Hopefully they can change his mind over the next year and he would still stay, but the Wolves couldn't afford to lose him for nothing.

I don't think Thibs lets Butler get offered anything but the max, it's a sign of respect for his skills and what he's brought to this franchise. It doesn't hurt that when Bulls management told him after his 3rd year sign this contract(like 10-11 mil a year) or you'll be benched next year, Thibs wouldn't do it(another reason for his and management's rift). Butler refuses to talk about that situation but won't deny it happened, but that's business. I'm really not worried about Butler staying unless for some reason he's lowballed a contract after giving Wiggins the max. I would imagine Butler would see that as highly disrespectful and then Minnesota would be losing a lot of value by trading a near FA All-Star, but Minnesota didn't trade LaVine, #7 and Dunn to rent Butler(and get #16), he's doing exactly what he was expected to do for this franchise, make them respectable.

KG is my favorite player ever but it's a disgrace he wasn't at the game for Flip's pregame ceremony. And I don't buy the "TNT duties" BS. He could've gotten away with being in Minnesota for half of the day. There's no way TNT would've told him, "No, you can't go." I'm still guessing KG's bitter at Glen & the front office. It's a real shame KG wasn't there to say a few words on Flip.

BUT....

On the other side of the coin, I know KG keeps his inner circle and private life very private, and it may have been too hard for him to get in the spotlight there and say a few words. I remember how emotional he was the first game after Flip died. So, if that's the reason why he wasn't there, then I completely 100% understand. It just would've been nice if he were there.

A banner is nice and all, but after this amount of time I think it would have been better to put up a statue of Flip.

He was worth more than a banner imo.

Because we all know that teams like the 7SOD Suns are the most successful in the postseason. The playoffs are built on tempo and chucking 3s, not halfcourt basketball.

That caught my attention too. Usually they wouldn't bring something like that up unless there was some sort of conversation had about it. Clearly the front office is aware that it's a possibility. And if it frees up cap space in the process.... (or was it that they have to free up space in order to do it?)

The biggest thing last night reminded me: Kevin Harlan is still the GOAT.

I just hope that the next owner of the team's first act is to call KG about a jersey retirement ceremony.

Need to keep up wins like this while Jimmy rests.
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

I would have liked to see him there or see a Area 21 segment (maybe there was but I missed it). It is disappointing but I don't know the circumstances between KG and his relationship with the people in charge. Hate that the relationship is trained but it s what it is.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.
