Still early days but..... 2019-2020 season predictions!

Post#1 » by Calinks » Tue Jul 2, 2019 5:52 pm

Obviously there still could be some moves ahead that will change things but here we go as of right now.

Thinking it over, unless Rosas and Saunders' have an amazing system in place that fits our squad perfectly, this is looking like its going to be a rough season. I know Wiggins, KAT, Dieng are pretty much veterans now but I still don't think they have what it takes to be the main veteran core of a team/locker room.

We lost some real quality vet guys that fit that role. Don't know if there is much out there to replace them. This is looking like a straight up rebuilding year. Maybe Teague and Roco can carry a large burden, I don't know. But unless Culver or one of our new guys absolutely hits unrealistic expectations right away and breaks out into a star like Donovan Mitchel or Luka Doncic, we are in trouble.

Rockets
Jazz
Lakers
Warriors
Blazers
Nuggets
Clippers
Thunder
Mavericks
Spurs

All seem pretty clearly better than us as they either have already been much better or they added some pieces to pull ahead.

Kings are maybe better than us but it could go either way.

We will probably be better than the

Grizzles
Pelicans
Suns

Might be a season where we wind up with the 10th pick again and assess assets. Not looking forward to yet another year of losing but at this point its looking inevitable.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

I think even the Pelicans might be better than us currently.

I think we still need to add a couple rotation players, regardless I expected somewhat of rebuilding season. We were just in a bad spot. Too much bad salary and not enough trade assets, we need time to recoup.

I don't see why the Spurs and Mavs will be better than us.

They have better systems and better coaches.

Predictions? Wolves don't make the playoffs, Wiggins doesn't show anything new and the KAT window inches closer to him leaving. Let's be honest....

I think the Pelicans will be better then the Wolves. Really only the Grizzlies and Suns are the only two teams I’d say aren’t better than the Wolves in the West. In the East I’d say Charlotte, Cleveland, Chicago, and New York will be worse

I was expecting at least to get rid of some bad contracts (Wiggins and maybe Dieng)
That is why Batum for Wiggins would make a lot of sense...

Batum wouldn't make a difference but at least we would open minutes for Culver and Okogie and we had 2 years less of contract.

Not making the playoffs with the team as it is, especially with Wiggins playing big minutes.

Exact same list in my mind. So who mocks at 7th next year? Wait, it’s the Wolves. Who mocks at 9th next year?

Russell was the only chance we had of turning things around immediately. Now that he's gone...well yeah, next year could be rough. I think we'll still be competitive we just won't have enough to make the playoffs. Though who knows what a healthy Covington and even Teague could do to this team combined with the (presumably) improved coaching, I guess we could surprise.

Though if I'm making predictions?
I think Wiggins will still suck, though this time he'll be pouting instead of indifferent despite still being gifted a starring role. Assuming of course that he's still on the team.
Culver will struggle out of the gate but gain confidence as the season progresses.
Nowell will surprise with his shooting towards the end of the season.
Okogie cements himself as a starter with a solid 3pt shot, as he showed in college.
Dieng ends up out of the rotation altogether as Bell takes his minutes.
We become an average to below average defensive team (15-20 range instead of 24th) but suffer offensively (11th last year, guessing 15ish this year).
We miss the playoffs but don't tank, something that will once again divide the fanbase.
Teague doesn't finish the season with us.

That's just a few.

At least next year’s draft is PG heavy. You have RJ Hampton, Maledon, Cole Anthony, Ball, Dosunmu, Mannion, and Hayes as all possible top 10 prospects.

KAT will be an MVP candidate
Wiggins will be pissed and have something to prove this year
Teague will finally be healthy and Saunders will have him playing like his Hawks days
Covington will make all defensive first team
Culver will show ROY potential
Our bench will be considered one of the best benches in the league

Jk we're gonna suck hard

Twolves 24 wins.

Culver is a bust.

Wiggins shoots under 60% from free throw line.

Twolves last in attendance in NBA.

Russell will go down with toe injury and KAT will be barking like a dog ... Wiggins will be chucking long 2's at a record pace. :-?

If RoCo stays here and is healthy, I see the Okogie/RoCo/Bell/Towns combination being a mighty defensive improvement. I think someone like Bell could take real pressure off Towns defensively if these four play together. He looks like he has the ability/desire to get off his heels and defend. He also looks to have the desire to crash the net we might be missing at times.

I have no idea about shooting. But that week or two span of defensive genius last season made the team look like they could beat anyone even with the inconsistent shooting woes these hacks have always seemed to have.

10th seed in the West, late lotto pick and we'll move down a couple spots in the lotto getting leapfrogged.
