All 3 years of the contract are guaranteed ?

I barely know Layman as a player. last season was his first with significant minutes. After watching some videos, I think he's aware cutter, with good hops and lenght. His shot motion looks okay. He doesn't take any midrange jumpers, which is good. His stats indicate that he's not a good passer or rebounder. Don't know about his defense. Could be some kind breakout year for him, given he gets minutes. Wouldn't want to use the MLE for him but for trade exeption I'm fine with it. At worst, he's an slightly positive asset and trade chip.
But this could mean that Deng is gone.

These stats show why he was over 50% from the field despite shooting less than stellar from distance.

He looks like a good shooter because he's a tall skinny white guy, but his shot has a weird form, and he tends to make the bulk of them during a hot streak. If he were a good shooter, Portland would have kept him. If he suddenly gets that part of his game down though,he'll be a good rotational player.

I swear to god,the first time you see him intercept a pass and dribble it down the court for a dunk, you'll think you're watching an all-star. He looks like he could stuff his head in the rim.

He'd probably be better off as a 4 in some ways, but he's really skinny.

I think layman has a shot break out and make Portland look foolish for not matching. I was hoping we’d keep him but I hope he does well in minny

his release point is a bit low and he holds his shooting arm bends kind of sidewards so his elbow sticks out a bit, which makes it harder to shoot straight and have a repetetive shot. He doesn't have a pure shooting stroke by any means, but I think it's fluid enough to be a threat from out there.

I am not a shooting expert, but I think a know how a 'pure' jumpshot should look like. It's more important to be a good shooter than to have a good jump shot though. Having a good jump shot only makes it easier to become a good shooter.

Kevin Martin's jump shot is a nightmare for shootings coaches but it worked good enough

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned, but I have to believe is that David Vanterpool being Layman's coach for his 3 year NBA career probably had a lot to do with Layman's selection.

That's something I've certainly noticed. Of all our additions so far, I believe Bell is the only one without a direct connection to someone on the coaching staff.

Vanterpool coached Layman and Vonleh in Portland.
Prigioni coached Napier and Graham in Brooklyn.

When you consider the cap spike of the past decade-plus, this isn't really all that different per-year from the deal Mark Madsen signed with us back in the day

All in alliIt's quite a hodge-podge right now, and I don't know much about a handful of these guys or why they were available cheap. Might be an interesting weekend if are motivated to move any of Teague, Wiggins, Dieng and whether or not we sign Tyus...

Looks like the current NBA. We have a stud big to cause mismatches and then a bunch of guys to switch on the wing. Then next season try and get our future PG.

With the bench units we've had through the years, this kid will be a very welcome addition. In the past, we've gone on major slumps with the bench in the game. But this is a guy who can get hot in a hurry, as Portland fans have mentioned. In some ways, you could say it's like having Rose's scoring punch from last year but in a younger, cheaper body than Rose would've been this year.

Layman really reminds me of a young Chase Budinger.
