Luka is going to carve us up like Thanksgiving turkey. Man is unstoppable and he's carrying the Mavs like few stars can. Kid's a buzz saw.

Don't look now but the Blazers have won 4 out of their last 5. They are 9-13. They keep this up they will be back to .500 soon and right back in the playoffs. Can't write this team off.

Matisse Thybulle is on fire. Was my top pick for late FRP, early SRP.

Really interesting profile of D'Angelo Russell details what happened last summer. It's a great read if you subscribe to The Athletic.

Russell only wanted serious bidders and, sources say, he had three: The Lakers — wouldn’t that have been quite the reunion? — nearing a potential $100 million offer but in limbo until Kawhi Leonard made his choice, the Wolves, up over $100 million but still needing to create cap room to get to his max, and the Warriors, offering the full max in a complicated sign-and-trade involving Durant.

“Then what are we even talking about here?” Russell remembered thinking.

Maximum amount of dollars. Check. Maximum amount of basketball brainpower. Check. Lock it in.

“I get to be around Steph Curry?” Russell said. “I get to be around Draymond Green? I get to be around Steve Kerr?”

He’d already agreed to a meeting with the Wolves, though. He’s good friends with Towns and Pablo Prigioni, a Wolves assistant who coached him in Brooklyn, is one of his favorite people in the NBA. They were both on the helicopter ride.

“Ohh, shiiiiit,” Russell said, an interview record scratch at the mention of the helicopter. “How do you know about that? Nah, I ain’t going to talk about it. I don’t want it to come out like it was a joke when that **** was serious. It was crazy and I can’t act like it wasn’t.”

Russell declined to detail it. It’s pretty clear he feels bad about how it went down.

What’s known: Russell, sources said, had verbally agreed to the deal with the Warriors before he went to the meeting with the Wolves. There was no knowledge of how extravagant of a pitch Minnesota had planned. It wasn’t a quick in-and-out.

The Wolves — with all their power players present, including owner Glen Taylor — took Russell on a helicopter ride over Los Angeles, before delivering him to a private locale for a recruitment presentation they’d been planning the previous month.

On the helicopter trip back, good vibes in the air, news broke of Russell’s near agreement with the Warriors. Phones buzzed. The mood in the cabin changed. The rest of the date sounded quite uncomfortable.

“An awkward goodbye on the tarmac,” one source said.

You could do worse but Russell's contract really worries me. I think we could build up a better team without him but he probably accelerates our growth a lot in the short term which may be more important. Bleh.

He accelerates short-term growth, but he's also only 23 years old, so it's not like he can't get even better.

That's true. He worries me but he is young, can improve, and likely will be somewhat movable if we get to that point.

still is annoying Bjelica never got a legit chance with KAT

always wondered where Wolves would be if D'Antoni had been signed as coach in 2016 instead of Thibs

similar philosophy now, but team was clean slate in 2016 to build with

most likely wouldn't have spent $35 mil and a 1st rnd pick on backup Cs

Bjelica was used as SF with starters, with Taj playing PF. And he struggled mightly. With bench he played PF, but our bench was so weak that year.

I wonder if there is any legal way to get Bogdanovic on long-term deal right now, or we should wait till summer?
