Virologists are able to track the origin of the virus pretty cleanly, and the experts are very clear about its origin (geographically and time-frame wise).

WElp if the season does come back, Towns is probably back in the starting line up by then.

If the season does come back the question is in what form? Does every team play out their schedule? Is it a playoff tournament only? If it is a tournament, how many games per series?

What makes this situation so complicated is that the players have not been “released” like they would be in the offseason. They remain at the disposal of their team. If the NBA comes back in May (Mark Cuban hoping this happens,) then what happens to the off season. Players sometimes have surgery, or go home (sometimes overseas,) and spend time with family and friends. If things don’t wrap up on time what happens to the timeline for next season?

Honestly, this virus has so many variables in play that predicting anything is just to difficult right now.

ok then. In the movies, all you need is a single immune person for a cure. The experts whip it up. Let the experts know. I for one walk out into the yard and see a dog's dooty and I know which dog it came from by the smell, how long it's been there by how far it has sunk into the grass or snow, and by how annoying the bark is late at night. It's clear this is my neighbor's super hound dooty, and not just a random wandering canis familiaris. It's good to have something to blame. It's unsettling when you can't know.

I'm already getting used to the idea of the current order of draft picks. It would be an evil twist to allow anything but a normal playoffs based on what the teams have collected as a record so far.

Starting to look like the NBA may come back no matter what to finish the season. What this means for the following season I don't know but here are some interesting things.

Sounds like there will be a getting back in shape period so basically another training camp, could be weeks. That's interesting because that would give the wolves a lot of time to implement some new things with this squad on top of the fact that KAT will be back and ready to go.

The obvious downside is that we could see a significant jump in our quality of play which would really harm our draft choice. Could got from picking top 5 to picking like 9-10.

It would give the front office a really nice look though at what the team as constituted will play like after a camp and fresh. Would be great for evaluation if nothing else.

I'm really curious what the off-season will look like if they come back and play the season out. I'm guessing an accelerated off-season. Can't say players need rest as they are getting a 2-5 month break right now. I could see a really fast front office, free agency period, draft, condensed summer league, and a delayed start to the following season. They could probably push the whole off-season through in 8-12 weeks or so. They also may condense the regular season a bit to try and get back on schedule for the 2021 season start.

Of all the years for this to happen, this could be the best year ever for it.

We are approaching 60 days since the season stopped. That's nearly half of the entire NBA off-season. Crazy. In the real off-season we would have had the draft lottery, draft, and Summer League start in this time frame. Lots of trades and free agency signings would have been going down. Training camp would be starting in about a month and a half.

Well, I suppose if you are looking at this like an offseason. But in reality they wouldn't have had a draft yet, not until June anyway. What they have missed is a yucky end part of the season where playoff teams are dumping some games to impact their seeding while others are fighting really hard to get in the last few spots. Then the playoffs. Maybe two weeks out or so would be the draft lottery yet. Then finals after and late June draft. There is still 3 weeks of May and 25 days of June left.

I think it's really odd that they wouldn't entertain the idea of a shortened playoffs based on current seedings. Maybe concatenate the playoff early round series by going to best of 3 without so many days off. Then hold a normal finals series. Then draft at normal time. Who needs a new "training camp" session when nothing has changed for teams yet. They all just need to get on their horses and off their couches to get in game shape and go.

I think MIN is just $400,000 over the lux threshold, and I wonder if the NBA is going to allow them any time to duck under? I realize that not as much is at stake this year, but in the past, most teams that are this close will make a minor move or two to duck under. Depending on where the lux tax is set after the lock out, many teams could be going over, so I would hope the nba would give teams some flexibility here.

I believe Minnesota ducked under the Luxury-Tax when they bought out Allen Crabbe (he gave up around $700k).

Spotrac still has us $414,017 over the lux, including the Crabbe buy out and him giving back $681,544.

Still, you’re right, we could be under the lux. Even though almost every contract gets leaked, NBA contracts are private, and any contract can have an error that these websites have no way of checking. Still, the fact that Crabbe’s buy out was for such a specific number makes me wonder if that number was specifically what MIN needed to get under the lux.

Incidentally, MIN isn’t the only team Spotrac has sitting just over the lux. Here’s that list:

$4.0. POR
$2.0. MIA
$0.8. OKC
$0.4. ORL
$0.4. MIN

I want to see a spotrac and basketballinsiders cage match to settle this.
