I think to some extent I’m fine with coming out of this with Jauncho/McLaughlin/Martin coming back and filling out our roster.

I think it may end up being a win to 1) not overpay for an aging or mediocre player 2) continue to develop players like McLaughlin and Vanderbilt.

I also think Layman is almost like another FA signing given he missed the majority of last year.

I have a few questions:

1) what NY cleaned up roster for? they created cap space, but have not signed any big FA
2) what HOU, BRO, WAS are waiting for?
3) what TOR are going to do without bigmen?

Now that the deals are done...Rosas turned Covington and Dieng and a second round pick into Rubio, Beasley, Hernangomez, Bolmaro, and McDaniels.

I’m definitely expecting a trade to clear up the end of the roster and maybe a minor FA like RHJ.

I was over by $1 million a year. Those who thought he could be signed for 3.5 million a year were delusional. I'm happy with the signing.

I could see waiving Evans and signing JMac, but anything past that depends on what they can get for Spellman and if they think it is worth it. But you would have to think RHJ is a guy they would look at.

This further reinforces my position that Juancho's deal was very solid for Minnesota.

Dario was such a good backup center for the Suns last year...

Great deal for the Suns.

Listened to Doogies podcast earlier today. He had some interesting things to say.

We went after Crowder. He had no interest.

We went after Tristian Thompson, he had very little interest.

We went hard after Milsap, he had no interest.

Suns ex GM came on too and he said Minnesota has challenges getting free agents.

Nothing we didn't already know but yes, it's very hard for us to lure free agents here. It's not just the water (its a factor) but mainly because we are a crap franchise. Suns GM says we overplayed some for Beasley and Jauncho but it's because we want to control those deals and they are big time free agents for us.

Because of the team options and structure, we have a lot of control, we can flip their contracts in trades and have a lot of flexibility.

Basically, we will likely have to build our team up through good trades and good finds. When we do become a very good team, it will be much easier for us to recruit good free agents.

doubtful

look at 2017, Wolves traded for Butler and KAT/Wiggins still had the "potential" shine on them, Thibs was considering big-time coach and Wolves still had to in most people minds overpay Teague and GIbson

Not likely Wolves will have a similar situation for a long time as they did in 2017 with an All-NBA caliber player, two top picks and cap space, and even that led to pretty meh FA

I don’t know how long it will take, but we probably need to establish ourselves as an actual good team, not just have a couple good players.

No doubt you have to show you can play winning basketball… FA’s have to have players they wanna play with… It’s not just about coming here - it’s about culture. If players will go to Milwaukee Cleveland Philadelphia etc.… They will easily come to Minnesota.

Our front office knows the gig… But I’m not so sure our Key players do. We think we need a third star… But those big name FA players likely don’t see it the same way right now. We gotta make noise with playing winning basketball.
