Where do the wolves fit in the Western Conference?

For the next month, I think it will be fun to try and figure out where we can finish in the conference. Teams are changing rapidly as events unfold. Here is my current standings projection, it will probably change as more trades go down. Right looking at the west I think these teams are clearly better than us.

Lakers
Clippers
Nuggets
Jazz
Rockets (If they keep Westbrook and Harden, this might change if they are moved)
Trail Blazers
Mavericks
Warriors (Even without Klay I think they can make the playoffs)

Now here are teams that could be better than us but I'm not so sure.
Suns
Spurs
Thunder
Pelicans
Grizzlies
Kings

I don't think there is any team in our conference I can confidently say we will be better than. That said, depending on what the Rockets do and how the Warriors shake out, there is a chance they are no longer playoff teams which opens the door. I think every other Western Conference team has consistently played better basketball than we have in the last season or two for a significant stretch.

I also think it will be another contested conference season.

Dificult to tell right now. I think we have talent to fight for the 7th/8th spots.
We have shooters around Rubio and i think that's huge...

I also expect KAT to be a different player with a different level of cominment on defense. I see him as a angry man coming to the season after the really tough year he had with all that happend to him.

Also, i don't like the Warriors without Klay.
Outside of Steph, they don't have shooters and Green is getting worse and worse every year.

I don't think we will surpass the 35 win mark (as of how the roster is constructed right now) and maybe we manage to finish above Spurs, Kings, Thunder and Rockets depending on what they are doing. Reason is I don't expect the rookies to contribute much right away and we clearly miss a SF and PF of starter quality right now.

I think GSW dynasty is over. Klay will miss two season, Curry, Green have a lot of mileage. Their scheme is built around elite shooting from Klay and Curry and elite defense from Green and Klay. They replace it with Wiggins? It is not even funny, it is sad...

I think Minnesota has a fighter's chance to finish 10th or better....which remember means they could play their way into the postseason with the new format.

I don’t think there is any way that Rosas doesn’t have one more fairly substantial move in him before the season starts.

I don’t know if that’s FA signing, Beasley S/T, other trade, but I think we’ll see a starting level combo forward or PF added.

As the roster is currently rly constructed, we’re going to be such a sieve on D, I don’t see us finishing in the top 10 in the west.

Keep in mind, KAT is our best player and has only played 1 game with DLO and and vice versa.

This is almost a completely different roster than what KAT started with last season, only two he's played with are Rubio and Okogie for more than 10 games and Rubio is a "new" guy here.

We still need a PF after trading Johnson to OKC..we need to figure out that first and I will come back to this thread.

If we bring Beasley back, i'm assuming we'll try to trade Culver/Okogie or both for a PF and see what happens, I don't know what assets we have in terms of picks, I know our 2021 1st is top 3 protected (then unprotected in 2022?) so we can't trade any 1sts...

With Klay down again? Who knows? We might fit in Warrors place! Take it. But good luck doing so shooting 40 threes at 20-28%. Hinges on Beasley being back or not, or one of these others on the team showing they can replace his level of consistency.

They shot 34% as a team with that god awful start included....no chance they're that much worse than that

Anywhere from
6-10 IMO

If Kat has an all star season and we get the Ricky of the suns and Antman is ROY material, watch out.

Edwards probably won't get the touches/volume for ROY consideration. He'll be third option at best.

I'm hoping we finish 500 and just miss the playoffs and get the #1 pick in the draft.

Klay wont even be ready at start of next season. I also think wiseman will be underwhelming.

They need to be top six or they need to start over.

To me really depends on what we get via free agency or via trade for our starting PF spot, need a defensive minded big to go along side Towns that can shoot block and get rebounds. We get someone like that to go along with Towns,Russell,Edwards,Rubio...ect then I think we could be playoff bound, but as of today on the outside looking in until that move is made.

Think some combo of Beasley,Culver,Okogie,Layman will be moved to get our starting PF and to round out the roster better.
