Nurkic? He aint no Jokic, but he will still just back him down and finish over or wait to get fouled. Size still matters, even if Vanderbilt does an admirable effort just hoping around trying to shield all avenues of passes/finishes for the giant he is facing.

Those saying he doesn't have the offensive game of a 4, maybe according to ideal nba standards, but he passes well, can handle a bit, and seems to take care of the ball. He just can't shoot. But he crashes boards and hustles after everything. He is actually an ideal fit next to a perimeter oriented big like Towns.

That is why we started Davis to use his necessary 5 fouls against Jokic. Vando and Reed are young and eager to commit their fouls. But somewhere next season, I want to see Reed-Vando-Culver/McDaniels-Edwards-Nowell/JMac unit to have fun against opponent 2nd lineup.

Juancho is also an expiring next season and his value will be related to how well he can shoot the ball. If he shoots above 38% he should be movable as well. Still, and specially with Ricky, trading him likely means a matching salary is coming in, for which cap space would be near the same. Maybe Juancho or Layman can be traded into cap space easier (provided they show signs of life).

Juancho just signed a 4 year contract. Not an expiring.

I believe he signed a 3 year deal with the third year being a team option. So, in theory, he could be an expiring after next season.

Yup, that's the case. His contract isn't guaranteed after next season.

I was thinking it was 4 years 4th being team option. However it is 3 years third being team option. So he's guaranteed this year and next and only becomes a FA for the season after that if the Wolves no longer want him.

To me Killboard your post made it seem like he is already gone. To me that is misleading. We have him for this year and 2 more as long as we want him.

Fair, the thing is he is both, an expiring next season and under contract for 2 more season after this one, the Wolves or any team he ends up with will make that call, and that helps his value if he can shoot as last season.

I believe that Vanderbilt has demonstrated that he's legit.

At least this aged well so far.

I view Vanderbilt more as Nerlens-lite than Bam-lite. Very athletic. High motor. Frame that won’t hold more than 225. Very limited offensive game. Definitely a guy that can help a team (even a good team), but mostly through effort and athleticism - not skill. Underdogs are usually easy to cheer for, and Vando is no exception.

Nerlens-lite when we speak about physical tools, but skills-wise in a few games of this season, Vando has shown that he can guard perimeter players, handle and pass the ball. Once he plays with Reid as backup PF against opponent's bench, he will impact the game much more.

Legit what?

A person with skills of a high enough quality to be worthy of an NBA roster spot.

I think he’s a legit NBA player. He hasn’t really proven anything else. Can’t defend centers or provide offense outside hustle and dunks. But this is going to be a lost season, give him run, see what he’s got.

That’s a low bar.

Sadly for the Wolves lately, it's the only bar we've got  :banghead:

It's not a low bar at all. Very few people in the entire world have that much quality to their basketball game.

Right, but it would be cool if the Wolves could consistently have a roster with NBA worthy players (who aren't just bench players elevated to bigger roles due to lack of competent play). It's a lot to ask I know.

Are you serious with this argument?

I hope not, for your sake.

I still think Vanderbilts best position would be the 3 for us.
