Post Game Thoughts. At Spurs.

Post#1 » by coolcono » Thu Feb 4, 2021 3:56 am

I was only able to watch some of the 3rd and the fourth.
Good- Beasely should be allstar, but won't be.
McDaniels- Looked pretty good defensively.
Edwards- Looked pretty good defensively. Contested shots as well as possible.

Meh- I got the feeling they were going to lose the game when Reid and Russell were still playing the last 6 minutes. But I don't blame them.

Bad- Saunders- Not having the balls to pull Russell and Reid on the bench where they belonged, because they lack basic basketball IQ.

Best moment- Juancho missing a shot right next to the basket while in warmups. It was at 4th Quarter timeout 5:29.

I might be done watching this team until we get a real coach..you think Pop would have let DLO just try to foul hunt and ball hog his whole time in the game? Not even Pop, any coach with any self respect..I honestly believe he is scared of his players and want to be as buddy buddy as possible and the guys are only cool with him being a coach because they can get away with doing whatever they want.

We had Beasley who was a flamethrower not even getting a look for a shot down 3, we go for Mr 8-20, flail my legs out hail mary 3 at the end, that's not a play, that's just asking your player to make something happen.

We had a 97-81 lead with 10 minutes to go and still lost. The list of embarrassing losses this season is piling up.

That was some historically bad 4th quarter execution. All these analytics guys on the bench and your best strategy is hoping one of Russell's contested off balance threes go in. Disappointing way to erase 3 quarters of good basketball.

I'm never repeating this coach's name again. Done. gtfo Allows lead to completely evaporate again before timeout. Broken record now. Tanking prick.

Beasley hot as ever 29 points on 18 shots. Not being asked to shoot 3s late even after lead lost. 67% FG, 50% 3s. 1 single FT attempt/make.

Dlo hero mode late was lame. Especially lame if they are going to have Rubio out there with him.

Refs. 24 FT shots Spurs, 11 Wolves. DeRozan had 11 himself. Spurs probably had 12 or more in 4th. I'm not sure what the odds/spread were leaning towards. Someone seems to have wanted something specific.

Wolves leading in percentage of makes from FG, 3FG, FT, led rebounds. Still blow lead on decision to just hunt foul shots late and Refs handing Spurs comeback on FTs.

Demar Derozan played 40 minutes and was crucial to their comeback.

Our highest minute guy was Naz at 32.

We are the youngest team in the league and should be playing our guys a steady dose of minutes per game.

Demar played 8 more minutes than Naz and is in his 30s and still killed it, does Ryan not know to play your best players? What is he doing?

Saunders needs to go.

Here are a sampling of poor coaching decisions in the 4th quarter:
- Putting Okogie back in the game where he got torched by DeRozan (while being a total non factor on offense).
- Not having Vanderbilt or McDaniels on DeRozan for the last 7 minutes.
- Playing Rubio and not having him run the offense. Either let him play PG or sit him.
- Letting Russell force up terrible shot after terrible shot.
- Having pretty much no offensive system for the last 7 minutes.

Trash analytics guys that have zero in game sense of what is going on.

I don't know if they are in Ryan's ear helping him make any decisions or what is going on. Clean em out.

They are asking coach things again now. No hard questions for wtf he thinks he is doing in 4th.

Edit: they came around to ask good questions of him.

Out shot them from 2 and hit more 3's.

Had more blocks.

Rebounded with them.

Took an L.

Especially loved that plan to run up and force their center to shoot FT shots with around 2:49 left and score tied.

Someone just asked real question about hunting too many foul shots late. I'll have to relisten to see who asked that. Way to go! Coach, "I'll have to review the tape on that." As if it wasn't his plan.

Now someone asking about decision not to stop it after a 6-0 run instead of blowing entire lead.

Finally good questions. good job,. Coach not taking responsibility. says it's the whole group not just on players. He controls these decisions, don't put this on the players.

That seemed OK to me, it was the failure to grab the rebound on the missed FT when the Spurs weren't even trying to rebound that was a killer.

During the first 5 minutes of the 4th I couldn't see who was a scoring threat (Rubio, Nowell, Layman, Vandy, McDaniels). Ant should be in the game and the 1st option. The offense was so stale just DHO after DHO, we need a new coach to input some back door oops or elevator screens for Beas. Something new plz

Rubio, beas, and ant should be starting.

Dlo lead the bench with defenders next to him in okogie, jaden, or culver.

But Saunders nor rosas have the courage to do it

That's a final minute or seconds move to me. They defended this team well all game. Giving up at the end to pull that garbage. Yes, missing the rebound made it worse after Center sinks first shot.

If Dlo jacks up shots now what do you think will happen when his wing players are Culver and Okogie

Dlo should take some accountability for these losses the past few games.. He shot terrible. Admit that he's not a superstar. Allstar? Thats arguable. True stars don't have bad stretches the way he does. Sometimes his attitude toward the game and commitment to win is also questionable.

Saunders should start Vanderbilt or McDaniels at PF. Stop thinking 6'4 Okogie can guard 4s or battle in the paint.
