The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to fill their final roster spot and NBA rumors suggest that they’re interested in EuroLeague prospect Pierria Henry. Henry has played in several countries across Europe but currently represents Spanish outfit Baskonia.

The Minnesota Timberwolves only have 12 more games remaining this season but are still willing to experiment with new players. As reported by Spanish journalist Chem de Lucas, the Wolves have their eyes on Baskonia’s Pierria Henry.

I'd rather they bring in a big but I'm willing to give this guy a shot.

Honest question, what are the rules about bringing in euro league guys mid season. Don’t they need to be drafted?

Not if he’s past his draft eligibility

I’m curious about our cap situation. Can we sign him for more than the minimum? Does it put us into the lux?

I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if it was a midseason consideration, since there's only 11 games left. They are probably talking about it as an offseason possibility.

EDIT: Color me surprised, the report says it would be in the next few days (this was first reported on Friday).

Can you please elaborate? Is it age based, years played in pros? I honestly know nothing about this for foreign players.

Pretty sure the minimum is pro rated and we have like 3 mil in space below the tax. I don’t see any money reason why we couldn’t do it.

An international player who is at least 19 but younger than 22 also can become draft eligible by declaring himself an early entry player. An international player who is older than 22 or was not selected in the draft in the same calendar year as his 22nd birthday is considered a rookie free agent.

And Henry was an American college player at Charlotte. His draft year was 2015.

I would assume he doesn't have a contract with Baskonia for next year and there would be at least a minimal buyout to them for letting him out of his contract for the rest of this year. I wonder if they are looking at signing him for multiple years or if they just want to give him a look on a 10 day contract.

PG doesn't seem like the biggest need for bringing someone in with Rubio, DLo, and JMac in place and Ant doing a large chunk of the ball handling. He could be viewed as a cheaper replacement for Rubio to free up salary cap to spend elsewhere.

I’m assuming, he’d be willing to sign the Naz Reid special and take the role as our third PG going forward since JMac wasn’t willing to sign they deal. Or maybe this rumor is to put pressure on JMac to sign such a deal.

Did they recently offer J Mac a longer term deal? I must have missed that.

The rumor was that in the offseason they offered him the Naz Reid deal. I don’t remember the specifics, but something like a four year minimum deal with only the first two years guaranteed. He turned it down and eventually came back on his current one year deal.

He fits what I feel is the player Rosas will be looking for in the offseason - cheap, older player who will play hard on D. I think Rosas and Finch feel like the Wolves have enough young players, so they will be looking for vet deals. Pierria may be better than a lot of NBA PG who will sign for the minimum this offseason. Damn, I would love for him to be a Patrick Beverly like player. A fan can dream can't he.

Rosas has done a great job in finding cheap guys who can contribute, so I'm hopeful that Henry would fit in that category. The main difference between Henry and guys like Nowell, Reid, McLaughlin, and Vanderbilt is that Henry is 28 and not a development project (so he's hopefully much more ready to contribute on day one with the team).

Be thankful that your FO continues to tinker and explore. Boston has Tremont Waters (two way contract) and Carsen Edwards ($1,782,621 - next season). After almost two seasons, neither Waters or Edwards has demonstrated that they belong in a NBA rotation. Yet the Boston FO apparently is just sitting there and doing nothing to improve their situation.
