Trade Talk (Part Eight) has been closed because the thread was a disaster. This thread will have clearer guidelines.
1. Personal attacks will result in a suspension. Calling other posters "stupid" or a "waste" is pointless and drives down the overall discourse. Posters who engage in directly attacking other posters will receive suspensions. Consider the last thread as the warning, no excuses.
2. All Ben Simmons discussion will be isolated within this thread. Please click this sentence if you wish to discuss non-Ben Simmons related trades. This thread is specifically meant for consolidating Ben Simmons related discussion.
3. Treat fans of other teams with respect.Attacking these posters will not be tolerated in any way. If you disagree with a proposal they put forward, you can be respectful while explaining your disagreements. Treat the posters how you would treat a guest in your house.
4. If a poster breaks these rules, use the Report function. If a poster personally attacks you or another poster, it is your responsibility to report that post to allow moderators to handle the post, if necessary. Derailing the thread by responding with your own personal attack may result in an equal suspension.

Thank you for this. That was too toxic

I just don’t see it happening. Philly has to leak this to keep as much leverage in trade negotiations as possible, but this has Harden/Butler blow-up potential if they force him to report to training camp.

I agree. I can understand Philly taking that position publicly because they have to, but coach and “franchise” player threw him under the bus. Morey is in a tough spot as he has to posture because like him and his flaws or not he knows Simmons is an asset and all this other stuff weakens his leverage.

Do they have to prepare for that...absolutely, but it will be Butler/Harden toxic if it comes to that?
Morey has to realize that if it does become that toxic....he takes the Thibs scapegoat route most likely unless he gets bailed out with a Lillard or Beal type of return...if he's taking a deal with Pacers/Kings/Wolves....after he let's it blow up like that...he's eventually out. He only survives taking the lesser deal...by taking that sooner than later.
I'm pro-Simmons...as I would be in favor of him & I'd overpay...but specifically around draft picks...I'm keeping DLo & Jaden...& would give up a large amount of picks. If it works...losing picks every other year is bearable & if it doesn't work & your blowing it back up if it goes that bad...your recovering those picks in future moves.

I agree. I’ve heard some PHI fans say, “Simmons is under contract for four years, so we’ll force him to play, or let him rot losing paychecks!” but that is not the way the NBA works, either for players or for teams. The situation looks bad because:
1. Embiid threw him under the bus
2. Doc Rivers didn’t stand up for him
3. There are reports that Simmons refuses to communicate with teammates or the team.
4. PHI media is brutal
5. PHI fans are even more brutal
6. Simmons has the most value if he regains his confidence and shooting. PHI is the worse place for that now.
7. He reportedly sent Klutch in to ask for a trade. No team wants to piss off Klutch.
I would be very surprised if PHI starts the season with Simmons on the roster. I imagine he will go to SAC or SA (maybe MIN), and certainly not for the ridiculous asking prices Morey has set. I think he played this horribly, and now most teams that were interested in him six weeks ago have made other plans.

The longer Morey let's this go the messier it's going to get for him, ala Butler/Thibs.
He's clearly been waiting for a big asset to ask out elsewhere but it seems incredibly unlikely that happens before we've at least played a substantial amount of games, let alone before the season starts.

Doc and Embiid have done significant damage to Morey's bargaining position here, you hate to see it

I think any situation where the mess is public will always have that effect. Butler was worth more than we got, Harden could probably have gone for more under the right conditions, ect… Then again the Lakers and AD proved that when the buyer is desperate the seller also gains leverage. I am weary of us appearing to eager so our price tag goes up relative to other interested teams. Wolves might want to back off a bit and re-engage in a few weeks.

Minnesota aren’t going to give up Kat or Ant and without them there’s very little to talk about with the Sixers as they obviously aren’t interested in much else on your roster
Any deal will involve another team(s) who can provide something of interest to the Sixers in return for your assets
That’s not meant as as insult, it’s just reality
It’s like the Kings offering Hield, Bagley, etc
The salaries match but it doesn’t do anything for the Sixers

For a second there, I thought we already traded for him

Do you believe that PHI will start the season with a disgruntled Simmons, if this “interesting” trade offer doesn’t appear?
I think we have reached the point in time where you take whatever you can get, and hope to save a little face. The disruption, where everyday, every reporter is asking every player about Simmons seems very damaging to a contender.

Yep
They will win plenty of games on raw talent alone and it’s not as if this is the first time that Ben & Joel haven’t been best buddies
NBA is a business and the Sixers have 2 assets
**** up the Simmons trade and the window is not only slammed shut but you risk pissing off Joel
Now he’s a diva & I can easily see him “load managing” before shutting it down
Morey might as well catch the first plane out of town if that happens as there won’t be any Simmons to cop the flak this time

Yeah when he gets his own thread I can see why. I don't care whether we trade for him or not, but it would be kind of fun.

I don't know how often stuff like this is reported in these incredibly tense drawn out situations. I have mentioned a few times that if it is possible PHI needs to bring him back, hope he drives up the market. It is a near impossible situation to fully leverage teams if the market for a player is slim and you want what they don't have or won't part with. So it is evidently clear they either need a team that has what they want to jump in or the interested teams have what that team wants. The reality is Simmons is a win-now player and Philly wants win now pieces and that is a fairly uncommon starting point for a trade and makes the situation all the more difficult.
And if Simmons starts off poorly or just out and out refuses to play, well, a bad situation just got worse. As things stand PHI needs to either hold him a take the risk...which could collosally backfire and add to the pattern of mismanagement or move him between now and camp for the best offer you can get. Who knows what they do? But I don't see the report as out of the ordinary.

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yfj7cnacA slight modification from a trade I had done on the other thread to include Simmons. It would take some planning (players who can't be traded with others etc)
Essentially,
MN out Beverly, Prince, Beasley, McDaniels, Bolmero
In Simmons, Wood, House
Hou out Gordon, Augustine, Wood, House
In Beverly, Prince, Maxey, McDaniels
Phili out Simmons, Maxey
In Gordon, Augustine, Beasley
Lineup
Russell, Ntilikina (FA)
Edwards, Nowell
Simmons, House
Wood, Vanderbilt (FA)
Towns, Reid
