Is there anything surprising or shocking to you about this season?

Post#1 » by Calinks » Mon Feb 7, 2022 5:45 pm

Some of these records from other teams are pretty shocking to me.

Bulls are 13 games over .500. I knew they were better but 13?

Mavericks have the top defense in the NBA. Huh?

Cavaliers are 12 games over .500 and Darius Garland is an all-star.

The Bulls and Cavs are playing at a ridiculously high level compared to where they were just a season or two ago, some of the biggest leaps I have seen.

The number of significant injuries in the west and the Kyrie and Simmons dramas in the east. Also the Covid nukings that took place the past few months.

Dallas #1 defense. CLE success, DeRozan clutch shooting.

We spent the first half of the season as a top 10 defense and bottom 20 offense. Blew my mind.

how good Mobley was off the bat, he had that "it"

how poor ATL played, had some injury issues to be fair, but thought they would step up after being a conference finals team

for the Wolves, how well that five man starting unit has played, it wouldn't have been one of the five lineups before season I would have guessed to be starting lineup, and they had been killing teams when healthy

Most of the surprises have been good, but I'm a little surprised Bolmaro hasn't had more of an impact. Maybe I built him up a little too much in my mind before the season began.

There was one very nasty surprise. Outside of KAT our whole team started the season well below their career average from deep.

Interesting to go back and look at how I had things stacked up. Notable difference is Memphis (good) and Lakers (bad), with injuries affecting Denver and recently Utah. I was pretty close though...

TimberTrolls earning some respect from opponents.

Not just surprising but even shocking.

Nets & Lakers being where they are in the standings.

Grizzlies being one of the top tier teams in the west.

Cleveland being really good and Garland being a star

Not surprised at us though, I expected us to be a playoff level team

When it comes to the Wolves, DLo and Vando have been ten times better than I expected them to be. While Vando's improvements are in the areas he was already great at, DLo is the most shocking one because he's become one of the best in the league at the things it was assumed he was awful at: being a floor general offensively, and playing intelligent defense, and on top of that actually directing the whole team defensively.

I was just thinking about them. Not just about that, but remember how strange of an offseason they had?!
