I don’t see how he could fit better. Randle is a 10 rebound a game player, and our biggest weakness is defensive rebounding. Randle while not great from 3 is good enough to force a defender big enough to guard (thus opening things up in the middle.) Randle is good enough of the dribble to attack and good enough at passing to average more than 5 assists to 3.5 turnovers per game (the turnovers probably go down when he goes from primary offensive option to 3rd with us.) His 6’9, 250lb, 7 foot wingspan body would do quite well defending the paint. My understanding is the weakness in his defense is trying to switch and defend in space, that doesn’t happen if we keep him near the basket as a paint defender. Randle is already under contract for the next 4 years so he has no urgent need to stuff his stats. He wants out of NY and they want him gone. He is 27 which is one year older than KAT and Dlo and has been to the playoffs and advanced. I don’t see how he could possibly be a better fit. Oh and as a cherry on top, with the right moves we can get him without going into the tax.

Dlo, Ant, V8, Randle, KAT
Bev, Nowell, MCD, Prince, Reid

That is a rotation that advances in the first round and is a tough out in the second round.

I feel like we’re going to disappoint fans of other teams who come to this thread, expecting MIN to be holding their annual trade deadline garage sale.

We like our team, and we like our bench.

We are the 7 seed and have publicly stated we are buyers. We are also very much in the running for the 5th seed. I find it interesting that Boston still wants Beasley. After an up and down year his stock is as high now as it will get. I wonder if they would offer Smart straight up and if we would do it. Personally I hope not.

He is a bad fit because his high-volume, low-efficiency offensive game clashes pretty badly with Minnesota’s existing players, and he is a massive net-negative on defense. Given the switch-and-contain defensive sets that Minnesota sometimes deploys, the team would get absolutely torched with both Julius Randle and Karl-Anthony Towns on the court. I see that duo as an immediate ticket to a bottom five defense, they are not synergistic on defense at all.

The inefficiency is really problematic when Minnesota has a myriad of better offensive threats. To me, it makes more sense to pool assets for more complimentary players, like Myles Turner.

The high volume low efficiency is based on a need to be the primary option on offense. Playing with KAT, Ant, and Dlo means less shots, but also less defensive pressure and more open looks and dunks. Imagine him and Dlo in pick and roll. Also with a double off on KAT a well timed pass leads to easy buckets. I am not saying it wouldn’t be an adjustment, I am saying that he would enjoy similar numbers with less personal difficulty getting them. Use Wiggins as a model. Going from a 2nd option to a 3rd or 4th option.

Our defensive scheme is going to lose us playoff games. We cannot give up unlimited uncontested 3s and succeed long term. The only way to keep the high wall is to bring a big body to defend the paint. Switching scheme would give way to more of a zone. Again, not reinventing the wheel, just making tweaks to clean up the weak spots.

Myles Turner is less able to create his own shot. He is not as good a rebounder, and he doesn’t save that much money. Also he costs more to acquire.

This is incorrect. He played the exact same way for the Pelicans when he had Anthony Davis and Jrue on his team.

2018-19, NOP: 17.6 FG/36, 27.8 USG.
2019-22, NYK: 17.4 FG/36, 28.3 USG.

Wiggins is a bad comp because he's passive by nature. He had to be pushed to be aggressive. He's always been wired to be a 4th option. Randle lives to be the man.

For the first time ever probably, i’m fine with this team making no trades.

Maybe looking at the FA market after buyouts but i like what we have and this season is going great so far

I think the minimal trade deadline result is trading Layman+2nd+cash to OKC for room under the luxury tax. There are things the team could do with an extra $3.9M under the luxury tax line (convert Knight to a regular contract and sign a depth big).

Davis only played 56 games, Holiday 67. Randle wasn’t even a starter for half of that season. Also, I have no idea if the coach told him to shoot more or share more.

If you are correct and he cannot function on a team with players who are significantly better than him, then he will be a perennial loser. He is being run out of NY for his substandard play this season and his poor reaction to the fan base holding him accountable. Finch is a guy I think could bring him into the fold. Beverly could also mold him. But if he won’t be molded he is doomed.

Indi just traded Sabonis. I'd give it a 99% probability they aren't interested in trading Turner.

All depends on how they view Beverly....if he's your starter and you are set on
DLo, Beverly, Edwards, Vanderbilt, Towns...not much to trade there...
Move on to bench....
Jordan M/Nowell, Beasley, Prince, McDaniels, Reid...why would you mess with this right now??

Okoge, Bolmaro, Layman....for a big bodied back up 5.

Unless you're really going to go big there's no reason to make lateral moves or to completely strip the roster in order to add one player and potentially go backwards.

Just not much out there for deadline deals in terms of a PF with a moderate contract …. And I’m tired of giving up picks.

I’d leave status quo and let these guys filter themselves out down the stretch.

Found on Wolves Reddit:
[Jon Krawczynski Show] Expect 1 or 2 bench moves
Once again says he doesnt believe that he has ever covered a more "together" squad in nearly 20 years as a Wolves reporter

Good chance the Wolves make a deal - possibly 2, almost certainly wont be a starter level player (that rules out Grant, Turner, Barnes etc)

Simmons is CATEGORICALLY out. So suck on that lazy national reporters

Goal is the 6th seed this year

Agrees with DLo on the crowd issues but believes the team hasnt grasped how tired and worn down the fans have been after 18 years of **** basketball teams

Believes Finch & Co have done a great job at keeping players ready -- DNP: CD players play pickup games with the assistant coaches on game days to keep sharp

Jordan McLaughlin is the best Jordan in NBA history

Edwards performance issues down to his knee, needs a rest, dont be worried

Possibly Ant's McDonalds order is a bad move. Maybe he isnt taking care of his body the best he can diet wise?

Believes Kings are dumb dumbs

Believes the Harden/Simmons deal gets done

even in KG's prime when Wolves had decent teams, decent attendance, the crowd noise was embarrassingly quiet

I went to a lot of games during that time and in a close game with around three or four minutes left, whenever there was a timeout the arena would always play a video of KG pumping up the crowd, asking everyone to get out of their seats

and the crowd would, everyone would get up cheer and clap.... and then as soon as the ball would be inbounded and play resumed everyone would immediately sit right back down and be quiet again, it was cringeworthy

Beasley, Okogie and Reid+2nd for Randle and Noel and alec burks. We're too soft. we need some bullies in the paint.
