This is leaking either because it’s imminent or because Connelly wants this out there so he gets a raise from Denver. Doogie says not imminent. I’m thinking this is a leverage play by Connelly. I would love for it to happen though.

When rumors came out that the Wolves were after a top 5 POBO I was skeptical. Previous rumors had the new owners showing interest in Elton Brand (who is definitely not a top 5 executive and who would be a significant downgrade from Gupta), but if they sign Connelly they would actually get a top 5 guy that would improve the franchise.

Uh, yeah.

WTF? How do you go from Elton Brand to Tim Connelly?

I don't want to give up the first rounder. They can have one of the 2nds. No way we were going to make use of all 3 of those anyways, they'd probably burn one on a stash that never sees the light of day in the NBA.

KG has never had a stake in ownership

Krawczynski: Tim Connelly as POBO?

If we can somehow combine Gupta ability to sign players to team friendly deals with Connely ability to draft and develop young players we will be a top level organization.

I know, that's why I say it. When KG came back, it was said that when retiring he would have a stake in ownership. But in the end it wasn't true.

Unlike that, which was a loose "it would be cool" dream that Flip came up with with zero authorization, this would be a non-fantasy land stake in ownership that would be negotiated and put onto paper.

I don’t know if it was “fantasy land”, but obviously Flip passing ended whatever vision he had with KG and the Wolves.

From what I remember, Flip was putting together an ownership group to buy the Wolves from Glen. KG would have been a part of that.

When Flip passed all of that fell apart, although Garnett still expected all the agreements to be honoured. Which always struck me as...naive? I don't know, I just don't see how that was ever realistic.

What really is Connelly's track record?

He obviously hit big on Jokic (assume it was him), kind of missed on Nurkic.

The max deal for Murray was controversial and the max deal for MPJ may turn out to be an albatross.

I suppose the new POBO could make a huge impact depending on what he does with DLo.

Keep in mind he's never picked higher than 7th. Building a small-market team to be a WCF team without high draft picks and a relatively cheap owner is impressive.

You can say he lucked into Jokic, but then again, there has to be a complete organizational buy-in to build around that kind of unique skill set. He led that shift as POBO.
