There has been a lot of discussion since the trade, worrying about our rosters depth going forward and if we traded away too much depth.

However, just two weeks ago, I think most would agree that we were a roster that had too much depth. We came off of a season where we had 11 guys we struggled to fit into the rotation.

Yes we traded off some depth, but I think we improved our top-end depth, especially looking into the postseason when rotations shrink.

Russell / Edwards / McDaniels / Towns / Gobert should be better than Beverley / Russell / Edwards / Vanderbilt / Towns.

Examining the second unit, I'd argue that Anderson / Nowell / Prince should be on par with McDaniels / Beasley / Prince, though I understand it is putting a decent amount of faith in Nowell that some may not feel he's earned. That's your 8-man rotation in the playoffs. McLaughlin/ Forbes and Reid will get plenty of run in the regular season and situationally in the postseason.

There is a lot of value in having multiple skill sets. As I said in the OP, Anderson, Nowell and Prince are still in line to be the first three off the bench. Reid will be the main option if they need another big, of course. After that, lineups and rotations will vary depending on what Finch needs. What is the flavor of the day?

McLaughlin, Forbes and Rivers all have varied skill sets, so there really is no crossover between them unless you are only looking at the archaic positional titles of PG and SG. You need a facilitator to push the ball up and get the team in sets, you go with McLaughlin. You need a scorer who has shot 40% on 3-pointers in his career, you put Forbes in. You need defense and a veteran to get things organized on the court, you choose Rivers.

There's your top 12 guys, with Moore and Minott either soaking knowledge from the coaches and veterans or putting that knowledge to use down in Iowa for stretches.

This, plus multiplied by having guys entering their 3rd or 4th year and adding skills and developing skill sets.

Pretty sure Nate Knight is going to be on the team. He's been working hard and has good size.

We sent him a two way QO and in the CanisHoopus article announcing Minott’s deal they said Knight will sign it to become a two way.

Just to add to this point, the beauty of this backcourt is pretty much anyone can play together. I think the only backcourt combo you won't see is McLaughlin and Forbes, but that's about it. Similar story with the wings and posts. You might not see much Towns and Reid, but pretty much any other combination is fair game for this roster.

Depth is great for the regular season. You don't want guys to get worn down, injuries happen, etc.

Post-season you see rotations shrink, you really rely on your starters and key reserves. Playing about 7 1/2 guys, 2 guys getting a bulk of the minutes and another 5-10. Obviously injuries can affect the post-season as well.

That's honestly the beauty of what this offseason has done for us!

Last year only 7 guys played all 6 playoff games. To me, I like our top 7 of Russell / Edwards / McDaniels / Towns / Gobert / Anderson / Prince better than last year's Russell / Beverley / Edwards / Vanderbilt / Towns / McDaniels / Beasley. I believe subbing out Beverley, Vanderbilt and Beasley for Gobert, Anderson, Prince is a major win both in talent and functionality.

Is it like Maggie May late September . I actually saw the wolves scrimmage during camp once when they came to St. Johns. That was fun.
