You’re probably right, but I think there is a lesson to be learned here.
Overall, MIN has much more talent on the roster than either of these teams. However, teams with a strong organization and good culture can sometimes get their lesser talent to over-perform. They know how to stress win-creation, by insisting on defense or non-sloppy play. MIN’s organization is changing, but it’s nowhere near the level or tradition that UTA and SAS have. Maybe Finch can become our Pop someday, and that would be a monumental achievement, but for now, I don’t think the starts of the three teams is as shocking as many believe. It’s not just about talent.
True. But, month one is always chaotic, especially in the first 3 weeks. Guys who need structure tend to struggle while guys who don’t tend to over preform. Finch’s system tends to be on the looser less structured side as it is. This creates more opportunities to start badly. I just assumed with the level of natural talent we would be fine. But 2 years in a row I have been wrong.
Jazz are for real. Their top seven could start for any NBA team and for whatever reason just fits as a unit. It's definitely a playoff team. The interesting question will be who's their all star representative? I am beginning to think maybe Ainge really only wanted to trade Gobert and keep Mitchell to play small ball.
